Deep garnet purple in color, the 2017 Vrai Canon Bouché is a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc and was aged for 12-14 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. It opens with oaky notes of cedar and cloves on the nose over a core of baked plums, raisin cake and stewed cherries plus a waft of wild sage. Medium-bodied, the palate has a chewy, rather rustic texture with racy acid and just enough fruit, finishing a little hard.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Vrai Canon Bouché gives up cedar and cinnamon toast scents over a plums and blackberry-inspired core. The palate is medium-bodied with a good amount of sustained fruit in the mouth, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing on a spicy note.

The 2017 Vrai Canon Bouché has really gained depth and richness since I tasted it from barrel. Savory Cabernet Franc overtones add layers of depth to the dark profile, with hints of tobacco, leather and smoke that appear later. Ample and full of character, Vrai Canon Bouché has a lot going on.
About the Producer
Just a stone’s throw from the port of Libourne, the vineyard was more renowned during the 18th century than its prestigious neighbors Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. The chateau’s history began in 1953 with the Roux family. Later on it was acquired in 2005, by Dutch entrepreneur, Philip de Haseth-Möller, a great lover of wine. More recently, LFP Grands Vignobles de France purchased Château Vrai Canon Bouché in March 2014. The new owners have maintained the existing team and are continuing with the good work done so far. Since 2005, most of the work dedicated to its enhancement has involved personalized growing techniques, that are highly respectful of the soils and vines: observation of the parcels; use of well-adapted rootstock when replanting; gentle soil tilling; grassing between the rows with oats or barley; development of deep and spread out roots to simplify soil tilling and to offer a buffer against too much heat or humidity; mechanical soil plowing under each row, in view of eliminating the use of herbicides. Over the past 10 years, careful and natural vine-growing have restored the soil’s microbiological activity and have stimulated the growth of deep roots. At present, the wine indelibly bears the identity of this magic terroir.
