Tasting notes

Moderately saturated medium red. Deep aromas of plum, raspberry and flinty, smoky minerality; one senses rocks here. Suppler and sweeter than the basic village Gevrey, but still with a bit of reserve to its plum, smoke and game flavors. This is silky and ripe--even a bit plump--but avoids coming off as heavy owing to its nicely integrated acidity. Not a high-pitched wine but a lovely soil expression.

(35% new oak): Bright, dark red. Reticent, slightly musky nose hints at red berries and animal fur. A step up in richness and breadth from the regular village wine, with harmonious acidity giving the wine excellent vinosity. Plum, cherry and game flavors carry through to a persistent finish featuring supple, dusty tannins.

About the Producer

The Trapet family has a rich history in the wine industry. In the early 20th century, they made significant acquisitions of renowned vineyards. They currently own the Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin vineyards, which they purchased at that time. Before the family's separation, they were the largest landowners of the prestigious Chambertin Grand Cru. After the split, the Trapet father and son continued to own 1.9 hectares, just slightly less than the Armand Rousseau estate. In 1993, the then-owner Jean and his sister Mado Trapet decided to separate and establish two independent estates, which are known today as Rossignol-Trapet and Trapet Père et Fils. It was during this time that Jean-Louis, the current owner, completed his winemaking degree at the University of Dijon. He gained experience in major wine regions such as Bordeaux, Champagne, and California before returning to take over the family estate. Jean-Louis's wife, Andrée, hails from Alsace, and together, they jointly manage both Domaine Trapet and Domaine Trapet Père et Fils. The Trapet estate has received the highest three-star rating from the prestigious French wine publication "Les Meilleurs Vins de France." Wine enthusiasts who appreciate Burgundy wines should not miss the opportunity to experience the exceptional quality of Trapet's wines, with their flagship being the grand cru Chambertin.
