A classic Bandol, the 2022 Bandol Rose reveals stunning aromas of grapefruit, spring flowers, guava, lemon and iodine. The wine on the palate is medium to full-bodied, combining a fleshy core of fruit and racy acids with impressive substance on the finish. It needs a couple of years in bottle, but you can already see the potential.
About the Producer
Domaine Tempier now has 30 hectares of vineyards, 25 in ownership and 5 in rents, spread on 3 villages and different terroirs. When his father began to bring back to life the Bandol wines in the early 40's, he did it in difficult times, the region was poor (including themselves), they had little equipment and no support (plus, France was under german rule). There was nothing then of the selfconsciousness and certainty that Bandol wines have acquired since. The reason was that with a near-extinct Mourvèdre, the wines could'nt have this deep-fruit, velvet-structure that could be tasted in very old millesimes. And convincing everyone in the Appellation to implement the long-vinification rules and proceed to the arduous replanting of the Mourvèdre and other varieties was an uphill battle with results to come only many years later...
