About the Producer
Tapanappa is located in the Australian wine region. Founded in 2002, Château Tana is a new winery making fine wines, run by Brian Croser (founder of the Route of the Grape) and the family of Jean Michel Cazes, chief champagne owner and Lynch Bages. Producing one of Australia's most expressive and unique wines is Crosser's lifelong goal. The winery name "Tapanappa" may be derived from the local indigenous language, and it is likely that it translates to "stick to the path". That’s exactly what the winery partners have in mind, continuing Brian’s mission to select high-quality plots, climates and geographies for planting the right varieties, and strictly manage the vineyards to maximize the quality of the wines. A winery partner has the added advantage of having Old World winemaking experience, which enhances the winery to produce unique wines that reflect Australia's terroir. Tana Winery owns several vineyards: Tiers Vineyard in (Piccadilly Valley), Foggy Hill Vineyard in (Fleurieu Peninsula) and Whalebone in (Wrattonbully) Vineyard Vineyard. Each park has its own climate and soil type. Tiers Vineyard was the first vineyard to be planted in the Adelaide Hills, planting a Chardonnay clone from Mendoza in 1979. Foggy Hill Vineyard is dominated by Pinot Noir varieties. The Whalebone Vineyard vineyard is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon – Shiraz. The wines produced by Tana Winery can be divided into two series, one is Single Vineyard Wines and the other is Wines of Terroir. The former is made from only grapes from the highest quality vineyards, while the latter purely reflects the terroir of the sub-region. Single Vineyard Wines such as Tapanappa 2010 Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay, Tapanappa 2009 Foggy Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, Tapanappa 2008 Whalebone Vineyard Cabernet Shiraz. The Wines of Terroir series of wines such as Tapanappa 2011 Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay, Tapanappa 2010 Fleurieu Peninsula Pinot Noir and Tapanappa 2007 Wrattonbully Cabernet Shiraz and so on.
