About the Producer
The roots of Suenen can be traced back to the late 1800s when Aurélien's ancestors settled in the Cramant area. After working alongside his father for 18 years, Daniel took over the business and embarked on a path of expansion. He increased production and sales, taking the wine from around 4,000 bottles to 20,000 bottles. Under his guidance, the family also produced their first vintage-dated wines. Aurélien's vineyard practices primarily follow organic principles, with some incorporation of biodynamic practices. Rather than adhering strictly to specific farming schools or labels, he prefers to use them as reference points. He has developed his philosophy and approach to farming, tailoring it to suit the unique terroir and vine characteristics. Aurélien oversees a total of 5 hectares of vineyards, with 3 hectares exclusively planted with Chardonnay in Chouilly, Cramant, and Oiry. The remaining 2 hectares are located in the Massif de Saint-Thierry, north of Reims, and are planted with Pinot Noir and Meunier. Among these vineyards, there is a special parcel called La Grande Vigne, a 65-year-old plot of ungrafted Pinot Meunier situated in the village of Montigny-sur-Vesle, which Aurélien keeps for himself.
