The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is deep, rich and voluptuous, with striking depth and nuance. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, leather and cloves are some of the signatures that flesh out in the glass. Broad and ample, the Cabernet Sauvignon offers notable personality and plenty of its signature classiness. Mocha, chocolate, spice and new leather shape the inviting finish.

Dark cherries, plums, graphite, menthol, smoke, lavender and spices burst from the glass in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate. Energetic and vibrant to the core, the 2013 deftly balance plush fruit with plenty of energy and tension. Citrus and white pepper overtones add an exotic flair on the finish. The sample I tasted was a core blend of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, but the final blend will be quite different, as noted here. In 2012, winemaker Fredrik Johansson added dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, which may turn out to be the case here as well. Today the flavors are incredibly primary, very much in keeping with the style of the year.

About the Producer
Staglin Family Vineyard is a Californian wine producer located in Rutherford, Napa Valley. It is most famous for its premium wines produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sangiovese. The 20-hectare (50-acre) vineyard passed through many different hands before the Staglin family became the proprietors in 1985 – including a Texan gold and oil tycoon on the run from the law in his home state, as well as the more respectable Beaulieu Vineyard. Located at the base of Mount St. John, the estate vineyard lies on an alluvial fan of volcanic soils. These soils, when combined with the area's unique mesoclimate, provides ideal growing conditions for vines with the first vineyard established as far back as the mid 1860s. The flagship Staglin Family Vineyard range includes Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter commonly blended with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Other wine ranges in the collection include the Salus range with a Bordeaux Blend amoungst other varietal wines. Salus was named after the Roman goddess of health and wellbeing with profits for the Salus range contributed to the funding of mental health research.
