About the Producer
The establishment of Shaw And Smith began in 1989 with a lunch between cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith when they decided to realise a long-held dream of theirs - to produce fine wines together. Michael Hill Smith was Australia's first Master of Wine. Martin Shaw is an experienced international winemaker who has worked as a flight winemaker in France, Spain, Chile and Australia since graduating from university in 1981, and still works as a consultant winemaker for a number of Australian and overseas companies. The current Château de Château de Château building and production halls were built in 2000 and it was not until the installation of a new bottling line in 2002 that the winery took full ownership of the entire system from vineyard to packaging. The winery currently produces nine wines from a single grape variety: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling for the whites and Syrah and Pinot Noir for the reds. These wines have been widely acclaimed by critics and wine connoisseurs, both nationally and internationally, for their quality and are exported to many countries around the world, including China, in addition to the Australian market. The wines at Sharon reflect the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills and the varietal character of the wines. Its white wines are delicately balanced and warm, while its red wines are richer and less aggressive than their South Australian counterparts, with more elegance and finesse.
