About the Producer
A family vineyard established in 1810, nowadays, Thomas and Severine Schlumberger represent the 7th Generation in charge of the family estate. They devoted himself entirely to the estate, replanting almost all of the aging vineyard, but also giving it its current international reputation. The vineyard and terroirs They are 100 % estate winegrowers, they vinify exclusively their own harvest. Located on the hills of Guebwiller, in southern Alsace, with slopes reaching 50° and an altitude going from 250 to 390 meters, the mountain-side vineyard is surely one of the most breathtaking in Alsace. Its excellent southwest, south, and southeast exposure ensures it perfect sun exposure. Guebwiller is the only spot in Alsace producing 4 Grands Crus. This vineyard is unique in Alsace: 130 hectares with 70 hectares classified as Grands Crus composed of 4 “terroirs”: Kitterlé, Kessler, Saering, Spiegel. After having been harvested, the grapes are sent to the cellar in crates. The last-generation pneumatic presses allow very smooth pressing, ensuring the purity of the aromas. They have 120 old oak casks (they are more than one hundred years old to avoid oak taste in the wines). They also have 80 stainless steel vats allowing strict selection by plots and producing rare cuvées. This way, freshness, and fruit are perfectly maintained. Grape varieties There are 7 grape varieties. Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir.
