About the Producer
Sandhi's single-vineyard wines focus on a specific area within the Santa Rita Hills region. These vineyards are located south of Santa Rosa Road and are considered the birthplace of Sandhi. The vineyards face north and are situated on an ancient seabed near the ocean. Patterson Vineyard, the first vineyard site of Sandhi, is located west of Buellton. It is known for its unique vines from Burgundy, sourced through Dominique Lafon, a renowned vigneron and consultant for Evening Land Vineyards. The vineyard has a steep elevation and a north-facing slope, which provides ample sunlight while protecting the vines from strong winds. The clay-loam soils of Patterson contribute to the wine's density of fruit and mouthfeel. The wine has a textured quality that gradually reveals itself, showcasing a successful balance between French and Californian terroir. Rajat Parr, the founder of Sandhi, describes the Sanford & Benedict vineyard profile as having briny oyster shell and lemon curd flavors. It is initially austere and requires time to fully express itself. The wine is not fruit-forward but offers a distinct and complex character.
