What should easily be an outstanding effort from winemaker Yves Cuilleron, the 2015 Condrieu Lieu Dit Vernon comes from one of the finest terroirs for Viognier in the world and will see 18 months in 40% new oak. Brioche, buttered citrus, orange rind and marmalade notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, clean, vibrant effort that’s well worth seeking out.
About
A blend of 100% Viognier Cuvée parcel in the municipality of Chavanay, more precisely on the Lieu-dit "verlieu", stronghold of the Cuilleron estate. 12 months of aging in barrels and barrels. Brilliant and golden wine. The nose is very expressive on gourmet yellow flowers and fruits. Round and complex mouth. The richness of the soil is supported by the power of the viognier, the bitterness of the late mouth strengthens the length. To be enjoyed on the power of youth. 14% vol.
"The oak is quite upfront for now, but there's an intense salinity and freshness underneath. Long, straight, focussed, mineral expression. Long finish, good sense of direction. Has the depth of fruit you'd want from Condrieu, and the minerality that's so important in this vintage for freshness. Very full-bodied, broad and plenty of puppy fat. Grown on biotite granite, fermented then matured for 18 months in barriques with natural yeasts." 94/100 Points, Matt Walls
