Rating: 93 –93

From a plot with steadily high acidity, the 2020 Altenbourg Gewurztraminer offers a clear, pure and fresh, deep yet refined and complex bouquet with bright fruit and beautiful spicy aromas. Very delicate and perfectly round on the palate, this is a dense and fresh, quite tonic Gewürztraminer with a tight, tensioned and saline finish that moderates the sweetness. This should be excellent with fresh cheese. 13.5% stated alcohol with 35 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022.

Rating: 93 –93

Clear, fresh and with concentrated fruit aromas along with some botrytis flavors on the slightly smoky nose, the 2013 Gewurztraminer Altenbourg starts sweet, lush and voluptuous on the palate; it is rich, round and intense but also elegant and compact, as well as structured by firm tannins. However, there is a fascinating delicacy as well, and the finish is long, piquant and salty. Enjoy this wine for aperitif or with spicy, sweet and sour dishes, or strong and fat cheeses.

The 2015 Gewurztraminer Altenbourg is clear, fresh and elegant, yet intense and distinguished on the nose where white fruit aromas are displayed along with lemon, orange and some spicy notes. Full-bodied, piquant and fresh on the palate, this is a rich and juicy, yet very elegant and firmly structured Gewurz; the 32.1 grams of residual sugar are well balanced by fine tannins and a remarkably vital freshness. The finish is really stimulating in its mouthwatering clarity and salinity.

Very clear, delicate and aromatic on the nose, with floral and tropical fruit aromas and spicy notes representing the clay and limestone soils of the terroir below the grand cru Furstentum, Weinbach's 2022 Altenbourg Gewurztraminer is a ripe, rich and concentrated, very intense yet also precise and zesty wine with great complexity and a stimulating, refreshing and spicy finish. This well-structured Gewürztraminer already drinks beautifully, especially with spicy dishes. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.
