A blend of 60% Clairette and 30% Ugni Blanc complemented with Rolle, Bourboulenc and Marsanne, the 2023 Bandol Blanc exhales a complex, perfumed bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, lemon, acacia flowers, spring flowers and confit citrus. Medium-bodied, textured and enveloping, it’s delicate with a fleshy mid-palate, bright acids and a long, mineral finish. This is a stunning white wine that will offer a broad drinking window.

Primarily Clairette (60%) and Ugni Blanc (30%), with bits of Bourboulenc, Marsanne and Rolle, the 2021 Bandol Blanc was still in tank when I visited early last year. It presents a striking juxtaposition of ripe pears and honeyed richness with brighter notes of fresh lime juice on the nose and medium-bodied palate, finishing with a sense of plush richness balanced by mouthwatering citrus zest and brine.

One of the finest whites I was able to taste from the region is the 2014 Bandol Blanc from Tempier. Made from 55% Clairette, 19% Ugni Blanc, 16% Bourboulenc, and the rest Vermentino and Marsanne, this incredibly clean, classy and balanced white has outstanding notes of white flowers, white peach, citrus blossom and mint. Count me a fan and it should drink beautifully for a year or more.
