Bright purple. A highly perfumed nose displays an array of ripe black and blue fruit, Indian spice and floral aromas enlivened by a smoky mineral quality. Sappy and deeply concentrated, offering sweet cassis and blueberry flavors and a suggestion of candied violet. The mineral and floral components drive an extremely long, incisive finish that's given shape by smooth, slow-building tannins.

Inky ruby. Expressive cherry, blueberry and violet aromas are complemented by hints of exotic spices and smoky minerals. Succulent and broad on the palate, offering deeply concentrated, spice-laced black/blue fruit flavors and a violet pastille quality that builds on the back half. Broad and densely packed, yet lively as well, finishing with sharp delineation, youthful, firm tannins and strong, floral-driven persistence. (all de-stemmed fruit)

The 2018 Hermitage Blanc marries ripe, tropical-scented fruit with subtle notes of pencil shavings and toasted coconut on the nose, making for a fun, exotic experience. On the palate, it's full-bodied, round and palate-coating, while being silky and energetic at the same time. The finish pulls the broad, fruit-driven essence into sharper focus while retaining its overall impression of generosity. A fine example of white Hermitage, it drinks well now but should really start to sing in a decade.

Deeper in color than the St Péray release, the 2015 Hermitage Blanc offers a big, rich, unctuous style as well as terrific notes of marmalade, buttered peach, toasty oak and exotic flowers. Not yet bottled, this full-bodied, rich, concentrated white is going to need a year or two of bottle age, but will keep for a decade or more.

The 1998 Hermitage blanc (95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne) is a restrained, elegant white Hermitage with medium body, subtle toasty oak, and good ripeness. It will not win any awards for flamboyance, but one has to respect its delicacy. Anticipated maturity: now-2006. The first vintage of Hermitage Blanc I've tasted from this estate (not that he hasn't released it in the past), the 2013 Hermitage Blanc is a Marsanne-dominated blend that incorporates 20% Roussanne. There's a tiny 300 cases made, of which only 2.5 cases are imported to the US. Its medium gold color is followed by a rich, layered white that offers terrific intensity in its buttered orchard fruits, honeysuckle, quince, crushed rock and toasty oak-scented bouquet. Full-bodied, beautifully pure and elegant, it needs short term cellaring, but will have more than two decades of overall longevity.

A blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, the 2017 Hermitage Blanc spent a year in barrels, and when I tasted it June, it was in the midst of another year in foudre. Subtle toast notes accent pear and carambola fruit. It's medium to full-bodied and rich on the mid-palate, then ends dry and dusty. Give it some time (like any white Hermitage).

Baked apple, pineapple, peach, dried jasmine, lemon curd, flint, cardamom and spice on the nose. It’s full-bodied, complex and intense. Long, ripe, layered and wonderfully spiced, with a creamy, almost oily texture. Lingering notes of salted butter and minerals accompany a fresh lift on the finish. Drink or hold.

A dense, balanced, intense and well-built Hermitage Blanc with aromas of baked apples, pears, cooked lemons, wild herbs, flowers and sweet spices. It’s medium- to full-bodied with a dense center-palate. Textural and flavorful with plenty of drive. Spicy and vivid in the long, driven finish. Drink or hold.
