The 2021 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken is based on macerated fruit (6-18 hours) that was fermented spontaneously in 100% large oak vats. The wine was never racked, except for the bottling in late June. Full-bodied, rich and powerful yet elegant and balanced on the palate, this is a relatively smooth and saline, pretty long and crystalline Riesling with fine tannin grip and a long, aromatic finish. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022.

From the oldest, up to 50-year-old vines of the estate and cultivated on partly reddish phyllite soils in altitudes up to 300 meters, the 2020 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken was aged on the full lees until late July for the first time (instead of April, like in the former vintages). This brings a remarkable, delicate, subtle and articulated, very elegant and flinty, almost Mosel-like Riesling bouquet of bright fruit aromas (mango, passion fruit) intertwined with notes of crushed iron and stones. Juicy, piquant and stimulatingly salty on the palate, this is a very elegant and substantial Riesling with juicy, refined fruit and a long, intense and refined finish that is carried by a highly stimulating mineral acidity and serious structure. This is an excellent Klosterberg, most probably among the finest I have tasted from this vineyard. Very long, piquant and highly salivating. 13% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in August 2021.

The 2019 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken is intensely fruity and reveals perfectly ripe and coolish, flinty, stony Riesling fruit in the Spätlese style. Round and juicy on the palate, this is an elegant, super ripe and piquant Klosterberg with a hedonistic component yet not the amazingly vital and salty finish of the 2020. Tasted in August 2021.

The 2019 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken is coolish, precise and flinty on the nose with its lemon rind and orange aromas. Round and fruity on the silky textured, slightly sweetish and very gentle palate, this is, like the Gräfenberg, a rather delicate and finessed, very elegant and weightless but sensual and juicy Riesling with a lot of charm. From loess-loam alternating with phyllite slate soils and a remarkable iron content. Tasted as a sample in April 2020.

The 2015 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken has a bright lime-green color and shows a concentrated, very precise and stony/flinty bouquet of ripe and healthy fruits. The wine is dense and very elegant on the palate, showing a mineral backbone and developing a very good tension; it also has charm and sensuality in the long and compact, dry and firm finish. This is an impressive wine that I haven't tasted this reductive before. However, there is great finesse and vitality too, so this will be an impressive wine in 4-5, surely in ten years.
