The 2000 Brut Rose Cuvee Louise is a delicate, pale-colored wine that reveals gorgeous inner sweetness in its perfumed fruit. This, too, is a deceptively medium-bodied offering but the wine offers terrific complexity as notes of smoke, minerals and candied red fruits follow through on the long finish. The style remains taut and focused, but the wine should soften as it ages in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015.
This large, venerable estate makes a wide range of wines, the best of which is the Cuvee Louise. The estate does not disclose disgorgement dates, but in general the wines receive six to nine months on the cork prior to be being released.

The 1999 Brut Rose Cuvee Louise is also rather light in color, but here the wine’s candied, super-ripe notes play a more central role in its balance. The 1999 is made in a more overt, fruit-driven style that shows quite a bit of richness but lacks the sheer verve of the 2000. Ultimately the 1999 comes across as heavy and excessively sweet. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013.

A blend of 60% Chardonnay (from Avize and Cramant) and 40% Pinot Noir (from Ay), Pommery’s sweet toast and yeast-scented 1995 Cuvee Louise Rose has a delicate rose color. An elegant wine, it reveals a light to medium-bodied, complex core. Subtle notes of pear are intermingled with minerals, toast, as well as faint hints of currants. While it is undoubtedly an outstanding Champagne, it lacks the concentration and length expected from any offering selling for $250. Drink it over the next 5 years.
