This sweet champagne tastes incongruous to the Pol Roger style. Rather muted on the nose, giving away very little nose. The palate is honeyed with moderate complexity. A touch of apricot and beeswax. Quite a shock coming after the Winston Churchill and to be honest, more interesting rather than enjoyable. Tasted January 2006.

Based on the 2012 vintage ad disgorged in July 2017, the white-golden colored NV Demi Sec Rich offers a clear, rich and elegant bouquet of ripe and dried fruit aromas intermixed with delicious brioche and chalky notes. Round, lush and supple on the palate, this is a powerful, intense, very elegant, well-structured and persistent semi-sweet cuvée comprised of the three important grape varieties. To be combined with sweet/savory dishes. Tasted June 2018.

Based on the 2015 vintage and disgorged with around 30 grams per liter dosage, the latest release of Pol Roger's NV Demi Sec Rich is showing beautifully, offering up aromas of honeycomb, ripe pears, brioche, frangipane and candied peel. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's elegantly textural, with racy acids, nicely integrated sugar and a precise finish. This works very well with certain desserts—think fruit tarts made with flaky pâte sucrée—and will pick up additional complexity, making it even more versatile at the table, with bottle age.

Offering up aromas of yellow orchard fruit, honeycomb, warm brioche and fresh pastry, the latest release of Pol Roger's NV Demi Sec Rich is full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with lively acids, good concentration and plenty of incipient complexity. To my palate, the real interest will come after five or six years in the cellar, but this is a very well-made example of its genre.
