The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmains comes from 60-year-old vines and is raised for nine months in oak. It has a pretty, floral bouquet, with peony and rose petal notes complementing the granite scents. The palate is well balanced, with a slightly pithy, peach-skin entry, well-judged acidity and a gentle, saline finish that lingers in the mouth. This is another very fine offering this vintage from Pinson.
Rating: 90 –90
Tasted blind at the Burgfest annual tasting, the 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains from Pinson has a fresh, stony and aniseed-tinged bouquet that displays good intensity. The palate is fresh and tensile on the entry with sour lemon and steely notes, good depth in the mouth with a flattering, quite animated finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine and moreover it improves in the glass and finally settles at a quality level higher than I discerned at last year's tasting.

The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Fourchaume spent nine months in stainless steel maturing on the fine lees. It was missing a little complexity on the nose and felt rather monochromatic compared to the Vaugiraut. The palate is better with sappy red apple and pear notes, a nice saline touch on the back palate. However, it feels smudged and came across rather over-worked on the finish.
Rating: 90 –90
The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains is aged in third-fill wooden barrels on the lees for nine months. It has a reserved nose that opens up with attractive flint and chalky scents. The palate is fresh and precise with crisp acidity, very impressive harmony and quite a sensual, almost Puligny-like finish that suggests very competent winemaking. This comes recommended.

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmains has a satisfying, harmonious bouquet with lemon zest, orange blossom and gunflint aromas -- focused and displaying fine intensity. The palate is fresh and nicely poised with crisp acidity, a tang of bitter lemon and mandarin, modest weight in the mouth, but showing a little too much oak on the finish. This was showing better last year, so hopefully this bottle was just not quite performing on the day. Tasted May 2016.
