Racked at the beginning of August, the 2020 Bourgogne Blanc is 50% raised in demi-muids. It has an expressive, quite endearing nose with tropical tones, touches of orange pith and passion fruit. The palate is well balanced with wild peach and light tangerine notes, fine acidity, maybe just a little warmth towards the finish, therefore I would broach this over the next 2-3 years.

This year, the 2016 Bourgogne Chardonnay is 65% from Puligny and 35% from Meursault due to the effects of frost. It has a light, almost Chablis-like, grassy bouquet. The palate is simple but nicely balanced, a little nutty and smoky in style and perhaps short, though there is decent depth here and a touch of spice on the aftertaste.

The 2015 Bourgogne Chardonnay, which had been in vat for two weeks, has a light but agreeable grassy bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is crisp on the entry with a pleasant tang of spice, quite lively for a generic white Burgundy, even if it scarpers out the door pronto on the finish. Enjoy this for a couple of years after bottling.

The 2014 Bourgogne Chardonnay, which sees around 15% new oak including 40% matured in demi-muids for 11 months, has a refined bouquet of light orange blossom and peachy scents that are nicely defined. The palate is rounded on the entry with peach and light mango notes, slightly lower in acidity than it peers but still balanced, smooth and harmonious on the finish. This will just slip down the throat! Lovely.

This producer has made noteworthy strides in quality as evidenced by the three 1992s I was able to taste. A solid, chunky, fleshy, medium-bodied 1992 Bourgogne-Chardonnay should be drunk over the next year. A Jeanne-Marie Deschamps Selections, various importers.

(60% from Meursault and 40% from Puligny-Montrachet, with the lower sections of both villages slightly affected by frost): Sexy, expressive scents of yellow stone fruits, lemon, lime and apple complicated by hazelnut and herbs. Nicely ripe and harmonious, offering good texture and concentration for its category. Finishes slightly dry-edged--but the 2016 version was more musclebound, according to winemaker Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau. (13.2% alcohol)
