The 1995 La Bernardine blanc (lot 7011) is made from nearly 100% Grenache. It offers a perfumed tangerine, citrusy, mineral-scented nose and flavors. Fleshy, medium-bodied, and elegant, it should drink well for 1-3 years. Last tasted 6/96.

The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine Blanc—tasted as a tank sample in the summer of 2023—boasts attractive aromas of clover honey, fresh limes, white peaches and crushed stone. Only medium to full-bodied, I'd prefer to see a bit more richness in this wine, but it's clean, crisp and nicely balanced. This vintage is about 80% Clairette from Croix de Bois and 20% Grenache Blanc from the other (western) side of the appellation, all fermented and matured in demi-muids, 15% new.

With notes of banana, rose, exotic fruits and ripe orchard fruits, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine Blanc reveals a dense, rich bouquet. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it's a bit lactic with a heavy, fat mid-palate that segues into a dense, concentrated finish. It almost looks like Viognier. This blend of unknown quantities of Clairette Rose, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Roussanne matured in large barrels and stainless steel and is a bit too ripe and rich for my taste.

The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape la Bernardine Blanc is an outstanding blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne that was raised in 30% demi-muids. It offers lots of mint, currants, apple and floral notes in a medium-bodied, lively, crisp, yet balanced and lengthy style on the palate. Drink it over the coming 3-4 years.

Looking back through the database, the blend for this bottling has varied a bit over time. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine Blanc is Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc. It fermented in old foudres and stayed on the lees for eight months. The result is a medium to full-bodied mix of pineapple and lime, with a briny, richly textured finish. It should drink well for a few years, maybe even longer, although I'm reluctant to recommend extended cellaring for most whites from the Southern Rhône.

The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine Blanc is 80% Grenache Blanc and 20% Clairette, fermented and matured in stainless steel. Boasting hints of tangerine and lime on the nose, it's a medium to full-bodied wine with a silky texture that turns zesty and refreshing on the finish. It should be ready to drink on release and over the next few years.

One-third each Bourboulenc, Clairette and Grenache Blanc and partly barrel fermented, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine Blanc features an understated nose of mixed citrus. It's medium to full-bodied with a gently silky feel and relatively crisp acids.

The 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc La Bernardine is a blend of Grenache and Roussanne that offers up classy, elegant aromas and flavors (white peach, white currants, creme and mineral), medium to full-bodied richness and a layered, seamless feel on the palate. Possessing beautifully integrated acidity, it’s a superb white to drink over the coming 3-4 years. Drink now-2017.
While more known for his top-flight Northern Rhone efforts, Michel Chapoutier produces a bevy of brilliant Chateauneuf du Papes, as well as a number of high quality, value-priced wines from throughout the Southern Rhone (and Languedoc).Looking first at his Marius wines, these are straightforward, yet impressively made wines that offer easy-drinking. They also sell for a song and over-deliver.
As to his Chateauneufs, he normally releases three cuvees, the La Bernardine being a blend and the Croix de Bois and Barbe Rac both single vineyard, 100% Grenache releases. Both 2011 and 2012 are strong here.

The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape La Bernardine white is a real stunner. Notes of citrus oil, nectarine, mango, and some crushed rocks are present in this wine, which has very pure fruit, lots of texture, and a crisp, dry finish.
The great terroiriste and biodynamic farmer of the northern Rhone, Michel Chapoutier, continues to display impressive talent for turning out strong wines from the southern Rhone even though his undeniably strengths are his single-vineyard wines from the north.

The impressive 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape La Bernardine blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. Aromas of quince, white currants, and apricots are offered in a fresh, medium-bodied, lively format.
Michel Chapoutier continues to expand his considerable empire throughout southern France. Recently he purchased Jean Marchand’s Domaine des Pontifes in Chateauneuf du Pape, so I would not be surprised to see a third luxury cuvee of Chateauneuf du Pape emerge from this passionate biodynamic producer of Rhone wines. The less expensive Chapoutier offerings continue to increase in quality.

Full, expressive nose of candied citrus, dried pear and vanilla that pulls you into this very structured, full-bodied white Chateauneuf, which has energetic acidity for this hot and dry vintage. The positive, fine tannins really help to drive this cuvee with clairette from the extreme east of the appellation and grenache blanc from the extreme west. This was vinified in a mix of demi-muid and foudre oak casks. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

What an elegant, animating white Chateauneuf. This has lively acidity, showing plenty of ripe pomelo, yellow grapefruit, acacia blossoms and vanilla. Delicate oak and restrained richness are integrated on the graceful, medium-bodied palate. Cool, long finish with a mineral freshness. A cuvee of 80% clairette and 20% grenache blanc. Vinified in a mix of demi-muids and foudres (oak casks). From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
