vinous 2019

Rating: 91 –91

The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is more backward on the nose than its peers, yet it is still delineated and focused. A light oyster shell note emerges with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, quite tensile and focused, with a touch of bitter lemon on the entry, if just missing a little nerve on the finish. Fine.

A very impressive and quite classical nose with grapefruit, lime peel, nectarine and dried flowers with a stony edge. The palate’s very neatly forged with a wealth of ripe white peaches. A very succulent, long and complete shape. Drink now or hold.

This has such intense wet-chalky aromas with lemon curd and white nectarines. The nose is quite tightly wound for now. The palate has a smooth, sleek and very dense feel. Compact, with great weight and refined power. Plenty of potential here. Try from 2022.
