A forward, toast-scented wine, the 2003 Meursault Narvaux (white) offers a flavor profile of creamed nuts, herbal tea, stones, apricots, and yellow plums that is regrettably clipped in the finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Importer: A Patrick Lesec Selection, Paris Fax #: 011-33-1-55-43-07-43, importers include Chemin des Vins, Sherborn, MA; tel. The 2000 Meursault Narvaux explodes from the glass with creamy anise and toast scents. Velvety-textured and medium to full-bodied, it is packed with candied apples and sultry pears. This wine is fat, luscious, and sexy. Drink it over the next 4 years. Gorgeous aromas of minerals, candied hazelnuts, and spices can be discerned in the nose of the 2002 Meursault Narvaux. It expands on the palate, displaying minerals, lemons, spices, and hints of candied grapefruit. At present, its finish is slightly tight yet Latour vows to continue its elevage until it properly fleshes out. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Jean-Pierre Latour defines the 2002 vintage for white Burgundies as “tenderness plus fruit, like 1992 but with the freshness of 1996.” He went on to add that he was “stupefied by the completeness of the 2002s. Analytically, they are like the 2000s, but tender, not square like the 2000s.” This estate began harvesting its wines on the 20th of September. The Meursault Narvaux has a candied, spicy nose, and an attractive spicy, nutty quality in its oily-textured mouth. This lively, medium-to-full-bodied wine should be drunk before 2003. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. Latour only used indigenous yeasts when crafting his excellent Meursault Narvaux (cultured yeasts were employed for all his other wines). It exhibits a rich, expansive and mineral-laced nose followed by a well-focused, ripe, medium-bodied, and velvety textured core of minerals, nuts, pears, and oak spices. Projected maturity: 1999-2004. The score, noted on a range and in parentheses, indicates that the wine was tasted from barrel. Readers need to search out these offerings as they offer superb values for outstanding white Burgundies. Congratulations to Jean-Pierre Latour for the great strides his wines have made in such a short time! The pear and flower-scented Meursault Narvaux reveals excellent ripeness and focus in its medium-bodied character. This silky-textured and thick wine has delightful toasted nut and mineral flavors as well as a long, well-delineated finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2003.
