The NV (2016) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is a classy, gorgeous wine. Bright, sculpted and finely chiseled, the 2016 has so much to offer. Chalk, mint, white pepper and crushed rocks perk up the red berry fruit. Sweet floral notes emerge with a bit of time in the glass. In this vintage, the Rosé is wonderfully translucent and so expressive. The NV Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir from 45-50 year-old vines in Vertus, done in steel. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: January, 2020.

Larmandier-Bernier’s (2015) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée just sensational. In 2015 the Rosé is endowed with stunning depth, richness and explosive aromatic intensity. Over the last few vintages, the Larmandier’s have moved their Rosé away from the dark, overt wines of the past to a style that emphasizes focus and cut. Those qualities come through loud and clear in a Champagne that sizzles with tension. A whole range of floral and savory overtones punctuate the striking finish. The 2015 is simply magnificent. Run, don’t walk. Dosage: 3 gr/L. Disgorged: March, 2018.

The NV (2015) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is powerful and tightly wound, but also dominated by strong vegetal notes. Compact and awkward, the Rosé is not an easy wine to appreciate, and that is unusual, as the Larmandier-Bernier Rosé is typically a much more expressive and giving Champagne. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2018.

A standout in this range, the NV (2014) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée Grand Cru is gorgeous, even if it is quite a bit lighter in color and style than was common in the past. Shorter maceration yields a Rosé built on energy and crystalline tension. Cranberry, mint, chalk, game and smoke infuse this super-expressive and hugely pleasing Champagne from Pierre and Sophie Larmandier. Disgorged: April 2017. Dosage is 3 grams per liter.

The NV (2013) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée 1er Cru is fabulous. Bright, floral and finely-sculpted, the 2013 simply exudes class. This is one of the more finessed recent vintages I have tasted of the Rosé de Saignée, but everything just works. Cranberry, mint, floral and spice notes meld into the super-expressive finish. Although a bit more restrained in its most recent incarnation, the 2013 does not sacrifice power or intensity. This is a wine of real pleasure. I would prefer to drink the 2013 sooner rather than later. But I can't imagine too many bottles will be around for more than a few years, as the wine is spectacularly delicious. The Rosé de Saignée is 100% Vertus Pinot Noir that sees 3 days on the skins and is aged in stainless steel. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2016.

The NV (2011) Rosé de Saignée presents gorgeous aromatics, but like so many wines in this vintage, it is deeply marked by strident green and herbal notes that prove to be overwhelming. In this vintage, the style is once again a bit more floral and less intensely vinous than it has been in the past, which reflects a broader move away from the Rosés of the past, wines I frankly miss, as they were so unique. Disgorged May 2014. Dosage is 3 grams per liter.

An intense, dazzling wine, the 2009 Extra Brut Rosé de Saignee has come along beautifully since I tasted it last year. Wild flowers, mint, juniper, berries and wild cherries all take shape in an intense wine laced with pure personality and breed. The 2009 is perhaps a touch less extroverted than other recent vintages have been, but still impresses for its depth and resonance. It will be interesting to see if the Rosé fleshed out a bit more with time in bottle. The Rosé emerges from 40+ year-old vines in Vertus and was bottled with dosage of 3 grams per liter. This bottle was disgorged on May 2012.

The NV (2009) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is surprisingly tight and shut down for the year, considering so many wines are open and radiant. Over time, the wine's personality and depth begin to emerge, but I imagine the 2009 will be even better in another 6-12 months. Crushed flowers, red berries and sweet spices are layered into the vibrant, focused finish. It will be interesting to see where the 2009 goes over the next year or so. The 2009 is 100% Pinot Noir from Vertus made with a 2 day saignée on the skin, aged in steel an bottled with 3 grams of dosage. Disgorged March 2012.

The NV (2008) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée boasts considerable focus and the pure energy of the 2008 harvest. Not unexpectedly, it is a cool, inward wine today, but it should blossom beautifully with time in the glass. Sweet floral notes wrap around the intense finish. This is a gorgeous Rosé, but readers will need to be patient. Personally, I like the wiry style very much. This is Lot# LR80910. Disgorged: September, 2010.

The NV (2007) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is a little bit lighter than some past vintages, but is still one of the most intense, powerful rosés being made in Champagne. Candied red cherries, flowers, sweet mulling spices and mint come together in this tight, youthful wine. For now the Rosé remains inward and in need of at least a few more months in bottle. Larmandier-Bernier's Rosé is made from 45-50 year-old Pinot from Vertus. The wine was given 2 days of maceration saignée-style and was bottled with just 3 grams of dosage. Disgorged: February, 2010.

The NV Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is a thrilling, totally compelling wine bursting with Pinot character. The wine possesses gorgeous inner perfume and richness, with sweet candied notes that linger on the finish. This is 100% 2006 Pinot Noir from Vertus vinified in steel. This bottle was disgorged in April 2009 and dosage is 3 grams per liter. The 2006 comes across as firm and needing further time in bottle than the 2005 did at a similar stage. Still, this is marvelous juice that comes across as Burgundy with bubbles. The wine will pair beautifully with white and red meat dishes.

Larmandier-Bernier’s NV Rosé de Saignée lived up to the glowing praise I bestowed upon it a year ago. A prodigious, spellbinding wine, it unfolded to reveal endless layers of intensely perfumed fruit wrapped around a long, powerful frame. Imagine a first-class Chambolle with bubbles and you have some idea of what this unique Champagne offers. Though not for the uninitiated, this is first-class juice and absolutely required drinking for anyone who seeks to discover the level of ambition of Champagne’s most fiercely driven, artisan growers.

Larmandier-Bernier's NV Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is one of the most profound wines I encountered in my tastings. The color resembles the tonality of blood orange juice. This is a powerful wine the flows onto the palate with an expression of bright red fruit that recalls the wines of Chambolle in its luxuriousness, but backed up with serious structure. This compelling, totally seductive wine possesses awesome richness and vibrancy, with layers of aromas and flavors that continue to develop in the glass all the way through to the long, intensely satisfying finish. The wine could be served alongside any dish that might be served with grand cru Burgundy, but like all of the world's great wines, this is a bottle that creates its own occasion. Larmandier-Bernier completely redefines what rosé can be all about with this monumental effort. The estate's Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir from Vertus vinified on the skins (saignée), and bottled with 3 grams of dosage.

(100% Pinot Noir from Vertus, with 3 g/l dosage): Light, bright orange. Pungent blood orange, strawberry and rose pastille scents are lifted and sharpened by a chalky mineral quality. Fleshy but dry and precise, offering intense red berry and bitter citrus pith qualities and a hint of tarragon. Shows red wine-like character and Champagne nerve, finishing with resonating florality and a touch of smokiness. This characterful pink Champagne would go with a host of foods, rich or on the light side.

(100% pinot noir): Dark pink. A deeply pitched, intensely fragrant bouquet evokes dried red berries, cherry pit, allspice and floral oils, with a bright note of blood orange adding vibrancy. Shows a darker character on the palate, offering sappy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors enlivened by a mineral quality. This precise, fine-grained Champagne finishes with excellent clarity and cut and toasty persistence.

Dark pink. Ripe strawberry and redcurrant on the nose, with blood orange and rhubarb nuances adding complexity. Deeply pitched but bright and energetic on the palate, offering refreshingly bitter red fruit flavors and suggestions of anise and candied rose. The blood orange note recurs on the firm, focused, very precise finish. This Champagne has the intensity to handle richer foods.

Larmandier-Bernier"s NV (2018) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is a very pretty wine. The style is a bit more floral and savory, with less vinous intensity than some previous editions, but plenty of ethereal nuance. This is an especially understated style. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: January, 2021.
