The 2017 Meursault Le Meix Sous Le Château delivers aromas of green apple, lemon oil, drawn butter and subtle praline, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny wine that's the broadest and most voluptuous in Fichet's portfolio, though it retains the tangy acidity and incisive that are the domaine's signatures.

I continue to receive good reports about the up and coming quality of Fichet's wines. Certainly this example of a village Meursault offers persuasive evidence that Fichet is on his way to the top. The wine exhibits excellent richness, a complex, herb, honeyed, buttered popcorn, and smoky beer nut-like aroma, followed by full-bodied, low acid, fat, fleshy flavors. It will not make old bones, but for drinking over the next several years, it is a sumptuous example of Meursault. Fichet's Meursault Le Meix Sous Le Chateau (Meix in the old Burgundian dialect means house or barn, much like "Mas" in Provence) exhibits a nutty, earthy nose and a racy, medium-to-full-bodied, rich yet tangy, core of white currants and minerals. Projected maturity: 1999-2004. The rating, with the range of scores in parentheses, indicates the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Note: I also tasted Fichet's Auxey-Duresses and Meursault Les Chevalieres but will not comment or rate them because they were still in malo and I do not believe accurate reviewing can be performed at this stage of a wine's evolution. This being said, neither wine is flawed and both have excellent potential. Represented by Domaines et Saveurs Collection, Jeanne-Marie de Champs, French Fax: 33-3-80-22-58-25.
