Rating: 86 –88

Aromas of pastry cream, green apples and white flowers introduce the 2017 Bourgogne Blanc, a medium-bodied, tangy wine that's slimmer and more open-knit than the Vieilles Vignes bottling.

Fichet’s 2006 Bourgogne is as different from his Aligote as ... well, as Chardonnay is from Aligote. (In addition, the vinification here employs some more obvious wood.) Peach, nut oils, and bitter-sweet floral notes in the nose lead to a palate exhibiting the Fichet-trademark alliance of leesy richness (but without an ounce of fat) to precision of fruit and mineral, and ripe, bright acidity. The Aligote literally leaves you with more to chew on; but this wine with more to ponder. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (800) 999-4342

The Bourgogne reveals rich almond paste and Earl Grey tea aromas followed by a fat, super-ripe, medium-bodied and full-flavored core reminiscent of hazelnut cream. What this wine lacks in finesse, class, and definition, it makes up for with hedonism. It should be drunk by 2001. Note: I also tasted Fichet's Auxey-Duresses and Meursault Les Chevalieres but will not comment or rate them because they were still in malo and I do not believe accurate reviewing can be performed at this stage of a wine's evolution. This being said, neither wine is flawed and both have excellent potential. Represented by Domaines et Saveurs Collection, Jeanne-Marie de Champs, French Fax: 33-3-80-22-58-25.
