Rating: 93 –93

The latest release of the white wine, the 2020 Blancaneaux boasts greater purity than the 2016, with gentle hints of crushed stone and pencil shavings accenting pear, melon and citrus on the nose. Slightly fuller-bodied as well, it's pleasantly silky in feel, finishing fine and long. The blend is a nearly equal 36% Viognier, 33% Marsanne and 31% Roussanne, also split between stainless steel and French oak, and aged eight months on the lees prior to bottling.

A blend of 36% Viognier, 32% Marsanne and 32% Roussanne, the 2016 Blancaneaux delivers subtle notions of Bosc pears, Golden Delicious apples and honeysuckle with touches of coriander seed and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely satiny texture and a fantastic line of freshness lifting the delicately played fruits with a persistent, perfumed finish. 912 cases produced.

A Rhône-inspired blend of 36% Viognier, 32% Marsanne and 32% Roussanne, the 2016 Blancaneaux was fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel and oak, spending seven months on the lees prior to racking for bottling. Scents of struck match and pencil shavings mark the nose, joining aromas of toasted marshmallow, pear and citrus. In the mouth, this medium-bodied effort is nicely textured, then adds notes of citrus pith and seems almost a bit salty on the finish. It appears to have several good years still ahead of it.

The 2022 Blancaneaux—a Rhône-inspired blend of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne—is made similarly to Inglenook's Sauvignon Blanc, with 60% made in stainless steel drums and the balance in oak puncheons. This vintage is less floral than usual, with more obvious oak. Scents of pear, marshmallow, melon and mocha all appear on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is plump and appealing.

A blend of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne, the 2021 Blancaneaux offers up intriguing Viognier-derived florals and gingery spice, framed by hints of crushed stone and pineapple. Made in a mix of stainless steel drums (60%) and 500-liter oak puncheons (40%), it's medium-bodied, plump and silky in feel, with a long, refreshing finish.

The already bottled 2017 Blancaneaux is a blend of 44% Roussanne, 30% Viognier and 26% Marsanne. It features notions of baked pears, waxy lemons and warm white peaches with touches of allspice and fennel seed in the background. The medium-bodied palate offers a lovely suggestion of oiliness to the texture with a lively backbone and long spicy finish. 704 cases produced.
