Critic ratings

vinous 2018

Rating: 93 –93

The 2018 Saint-Aubin Clos de Chatenière 1er Cru has exquisite delineation on the nose: wonderful focus and palpable sense of energy and tension. The terroir floods through here. The palate is very well balanced, with razor-sharp acidity, just a mote of reduction. Very good weight with a mineral driven finish that has wonderful sapidity. This is an extremely classy Saint-Aubin. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

vinous 2018

Rating: 90 –90

The 2018 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has an earthy/loamy nose, tilled soils and white flowers, background aromas of shucked oyster shell. It remains very closed on the palate, though there is fine acidity and it feels concentrated and phenolic on the gooseberry and kiwi fruit-themed finish.

vinous 2018

Rating: 89 –91

The 2018 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru was showing a bit of reduction on the nose, with light oyster shell scents developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with quite a weighty, intense opening. There is real concentration here, and hints of fresh gooseberry and frangipane toward the finish. Very fine.

vinous 2019

Rating: 94 –94

The 2019 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru expresses its terroir exquisitely on the nose, displaying wonderful mineralité and precision. The palate is well balanced, with a silver bead of acidity, and tensile from start to finish, yet expanding right at the end with mouthwatering sappiness. I remember this being impressive out of barrel last year, and now in bottle, Lamy has successful translated all that potential. Closure: Diam

vinous 2019

Rating: 92 –94

The 2019 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a strict bouquet, citrus lemon laced with blackcurrant leaf. There is a focus here that is very promising. The palate is very well balanced with citrus lemon, apricot and light blackcurrant notes towards perhaps the prettiest finish amongst all of Lamy’s nascent 2019s.

vinous 2020

Rating: 93 –93

The 2020 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru comes from steep limestone slopes and shows quite a bit of Coche reduction at the moment. But one can tell there is real tension and concentration here. The palate is tensile on the entry, freshly-sliced lime and tangy orange pith, fanning out with a sense of brio towards the finish. This is another classy offering from Olivier Lamy this vintage.
