The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers is showing very nicely, wafting from the glass with scents of citrus oil, nutmeg, white flowers and crisp orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly satiny and incisive, its textural attack segues into an ample mid-palate underpinned by brisk acids, concluding with a delicately saline finish. This is one of the highlights of the portfolio this year.

Produced from 65-year-old vines, the 1998 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers displays mineral, earth, and acacia blossom aromas. Medium to full-bodied, and appealingly thick, this concentrated, well-focused, and fresh wine is packed with white fruits and minerals. Drink it over the next 6 years.

The 1999 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers (from 55 to 60-year old vines) reveals pear and flower aromas. Its medium-bodied personality displays gorgeous purity to its focused, crystalline, precise, and crisp character. It possesses powerful mineral flavors that last throughout its personality as well as its admirably long, pure finish. Projected maturity: now-2009.

Produced from vines averaging over 60 years of age, the 2000 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers has a white peach, mineral, and toasted oak-scented nose. Pears, apples, and minerals are found in this light to medium-bodied and satin-textured wine. It is fresh, fruit-forward, and possesses a supple finish. Drink it over the next 6-7 years.

Exhibiting outstanding aromatic depth, the mineral-dominated nose of the 2002 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers (from 40-year-old vines) leads to a broad, lush, satiny-textured personality. This elegant, medium-bodied wine is packed with minerals. It offers admirable depth, purity, and length. Projected maturity: now-2011.

The Chassagne Montrachet Les Vergers has aromas of wet stones in the sunlight and a great minerally depth. In the mouth, its velvety texture is appealing as is its long stony finish. Drink this wine between 2000-2006. Amiot made his 1995s in the new cellars he built under his home and courtyard. With prefabricated vaulted and insulated ceilings, he now has the most modern and beautiful cellar for miles around. His '95s, while not blockbusters like his '92s, have the concentrated fruit of this vintage. In particular, they should be noted for good balancing acidity, something not everyone was able to achieve.
This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29.

The Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers had a completely reticent nose the day I visited the estate. On the palate however, this outstanding wine offers a ripe, rich, medium-to-full-bodied, and oily-textured personality stacked with loads of minerals, stones and metals. Well-balanced and crafted, it should attain its peak by 2001 and hold it through 2005. Produced from 60 year old vines, the 1997 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers bursts from the glass with aromas of almond cookies and flowers. This oily-textured and dense wine has exquisite minerality as well as white pit fruits, pears, and gravel-like flavors in its refined yet quite ripe personality. If it resolves the alcoholic heat I found in its finish, it may ultimately merit a higher score. Anticipated maturity: now-2004.
