The 2004 Celebris Vintage Extra-Brut blends 55% Chardonnay from Chouilly, Cramant and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger with 45% Pinot Noir from Aÿ, Bouzy and Verzy. Intensely golden-yellow in color, the reductive yet dense and immensely aromatic bouquet reveals herbal/floral and mineral rather than fruity aromas. There are flavors from ancient, very small pear varieties from the empty glass. Full-bodied, fresh and elegant, this is a round and well-structured 2004 whose finish is still a bit dryish. Minty flavors are displayed in the fresh and evolved but also (still) discreet aftertaste. Tasted in August 2018 from lot L6125111 with a dosage of five grams per liter.

The 2002 Celebris Vintage Extra Brut displays a noble, clear, fresh and subtle bouquet with white fruit and brioche flavors intertwined with mineral aromas. Silky textured and highly elegant, this full-bodied yet delicate blend of 48% Pinot Noir and 52% Chardonnay is clear and straight on the palate, revealing a ripe and intense, yet refined fruit. It has a persistent and complex, firmly structured, stimulatingly pure and salty finish. Great finesse and ethereal lightness here, with great purity and mineral tension. It also has the intensity of perfect fruit in the long and persistent finish. A great Champagne for the next ten and probably many more years.

The 2003 Extra Brut Rose Celebris is another tight, powerful wine, but with air, the wine’s expansive core of perfumed fruit emerges. This is a fairly rich, weighty style of Champagne that is best enjoyed with food, but it is compelling juice even on its own. The wine possesses gorgeous length and a long, inviting finish that is simply impossible to resist. The 2003 Extra Brut Rose Celebris is 68% Chardonnay and 32% Pinot Noir, with the addition of 7% still red wines from Ambonnay and Bouzy. The cork is labeled C 7203, and this bottle was disgorged in February, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
I was extremely impressed with the wines I tasted from Gosset. The house style is one of finely-sculpted wines that possess striking clarity and precision. Gosset favors oak aging for their top selections and malolactic fermentation is always blocked. The top of the line Celebris range sees very low dosage. From top to bottom this is an exceptional line-up from one of Champagne’s most historic houses.

The 1998 Extra Brut Vintage Celebris is a beautifully focused, linear wine that sparkles on the palate with the essence of white peaches, pears, quince and flowers. This medium-bodied yet structured wine offers phenomenal persistence, along with chalky, minerally notes that give the wine its superb liveliness and sense of freshness. Like many wines in this line-up, the 1998 Extra Brut Vintage Celebris is a beautiful, contemplative wine that deserves serious attention. This is a great effort. The blend is 64% Chardonnay and 36% Pinot Noir. The cork is labeled C 7202, and this bottle was disgorged early December, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.

The 2007 Celebris Extra Brut is the latest rendition of this cuvée, which cellar master Odilon de Varine describes as "not a vintage Gosset but a Gosset vintage"—meaning that it's produced only in years adapted to the house's powerful but austere style. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of lemon oil, marzipan, warm biscuits and wet stones, it's full-bodied, with a deep and concentrated core of ripe but racy fruit, a tangy spine of acidity and an elegant pinpoint mouse, displaying terrific purity and precision.

The 2007 Extra-Brut Vintage Celebris is a great example of the house style. Powerful and rich, the 2007 possesses tremendous vinous intensity, buffered by low dosage that gives the wine ts sense if classic austerity. Orchard fruit, apricot, tangerine oil and white flowers develop with a bit of coaxing. The Celebris is a big, broad-shouldered Champagne for the dinner table.
