The potentially outstanding Meursault Clos Du Cromin possesses an earth and mineral-infused nose, as well as a fabulous, medium-to-full-bodied, oily, and broad personality. Delicious layers of concentrated sweet sauteed mushrooms, gravel, pears, and white flowers are found in its complex flavor profile. It should be at its best between 1999-2004.
The rating, with the range of scores in parentheses, indicates the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
I am extremely impressed with Castelnau's efforts, particularly considering it is only his second vintage. But he needs to get these wines in the bottle without eviscerating them - and that's the tricky part.

The 1997 Meursault Clos du Cromin has a candied hazelnut and acacia blossom-dominated nose. This wine's spicy and over-ripe peach flavors were beguiling. The Clos du Cromin is a mid-weight wine with a powerful, ample personality more reminiscent of a New World Chardonnay than a white Burgundy.
