Smoky, tangy yellow fruit aromas lead to the 2001 Bourgogne Aligote's satin-textured, rich core of fruit. I debated long and hard whether to give this wine an 88, as its richness, depth, concentration, and mouth-feel well-deserve it. Loads of spicy, ripe pears can be found in its lush character. In the end, its tangy finish, which reveals some zesty lemons, kept me from taking that step. Nonetheless, this wine, from vines planted in 1929, is one of the finest Aligotes consumers can find. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. A Becky Wasserman Selection / Le Serbet; French Fax: 011-33-3-80-24-29-70, various American importers.
