The 2015 Block 2 Chardonnay offers gregarious notes of ripe apricots, pineapple, ginger and marzipan with hints of lemon curd, crushed stones and honey toast. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers great intensity with a lovely creamy texture and invigorating freshness, finishing long with some minerality.

The 2011 Block 2 Chardonnay offers a wonderful array of savory and citrus notes redolent of apricots, pink grapefruit and orange blossoms with suggestions of cashews, baker’s yeast, butterscotch and allspice. Medium-bodied and still very tightly knit in the mouth, it has layers of stone fruit, nut and spice flavors supported by a seamless line of acid, and a finish with great length. Drink it now to 2019+.

The 2008 Block 2 Chardonnay is more open at the moment revealing pronounced notes of meal and struck match with some apricots and lemon curd, green guava and toast plus a little chalk dust. Crisp, concentrated and medium bodied, this wine has a lovely satiny texture and a very long finish. It should be best from 2011 to 2016+.
Winemaker Blair Walter continues to work his magic with the recent releases from Central Otago’s most famous Estate. There’s not a wine less than excellent in the bunch, but these days it would be more of a story if there was.

The 2021 Block 2 Chardonnay is a powerful wine, with crushed nuts and orchard fruit aplenty in the mouth. The acidity is pert, verging on frisky, and serves to spear through the heart of the fruit. It has an open-weave, granular sort of shape to it—not loose but almost. Robust fruit is on display here. This is authoritative, with robust acidity. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

The 2022 Block 2 Chardonnay was bottled, along with the Block 6 Chardonnay, in September 2023, as opposed to the 2022 Bannockburn Chardonnay which was bottled in May of 2023. The same winemaking (aside from a difference in the time spent in oak) across the cuvées serves to highlight the vineyard differences. This Block 2 is far more aromatically restrained and certainly hides the voluminous fruit behind a sheath of mineral phenolics. The wine is powerful but restrained and pure in its way. It's lovely, with a gentle brine note through the finish. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

The 2014 Block 2 Chardonnay has fresh peach, honeyed pear and grapefruit notes with hints of struck flint, baker's yeast and marzipan. Very elegant and refined in the mouth, the light to medium-bodied palate has a lovely satiny texture and tight-knit citrus and savory flavors, finishing long and minerally.

After 17 months in previously used oak, the 2016 Block 2 Chardonnay is remarkably pure and fresh. Delicate notes of crushed stone, citrus blossom and bergamot push forward, borne on a texture of the finest silk or culinary sauce. The result is almost savory despite a preponderance of fruit, with a briny edge to the lengthy finish.

The 2010 Block 2 Chardonnay is youthfully muted on the nose with delicate white peach and spiced apple slice aromas over crushed biscuits, cashews, meal and honeysuckle. With medium to full body, the palate is tightly-knit at this stage with a great concentration of spicy stone fruit flavors, balanced medium-high acid and slightly creamy texture. The finish is long and honey-nut laced with a citrusy character revealing itself at the very end. Tempting to drink now, it should be best 2013 to 2018+.

The Block 2 Chardonnay has wonderfully expressive apricot and apple tart notes with underlying ginger, cashew and lightly browned toast hints. Medium bodied and packed with youthful apple and citrus flavors supported by crisp acid, it has a long spice and nut laced finish.

The 2023 Block 2 Chardonnay is toasty and tropical, with a skein of fleshy acidity within the folds of the fruit. This is texturally wide, with white pineapple, peach, hay and caper brine, and framed by toasty oak. There is lime zest and toasted nuts. The wine is, at this stage, a wine of parts, and it feels to me as if it will be a more cohesive proposition in a year's time. It's very ripe but leafy too. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
