The NV Brut Rose Grand Cru is a very serious wine. This intense Champagne flows onto the palate with intricate layers of small red berries, pomegranate, flowers and spices in a style that marries power to a decidedly pure, pointillistic expression of fruit. This is another wine that continues to grow in the glass in an utterly captivating, seductive style. Egly-Ouriet’s Rose is best enjoyed with food, preferably over several hours, which will give readers the opportunity to experience this wine in its full splendor. The Rose is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay with the addition of still Pinot juice from Ambonnay that spent 48 months on its lees prior to being disgorged in July, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.
This range from Francis Egly is one of the most impressive I tasted. Egly farms eight hectares of old-vine plots, the lion’s share of which are in his home base of Ambonnay. The wines are made in a pure, unmanipulated fashion with no filtration in a style that clearly highlights the qualities of variety and terroir to the fullest. Readers will find more details as to the aging of the various bottlings and their disgorgement dates on the back labels. In short, I always look forward to drinking the wines of Egly-Ouriet and I can’t recommend these Champagnes highly enough.

The NV Brut Rose is a rich, weighty wine that blossoms on the palate with a multi-dimensional, textured expression of fruit. The wine possesses striking minerality and nuance which paints a very complete picture of how great rose Champagnes can be. Simply put, this is an utterly beautiful wine readers will not want to miss. The NV Brut Rose spent 46 months on its lees and was disgorged in May, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
Egly-Ouriet is one of the reference-point growers in Champagne, with a deep selection of wines that offer remarkable transparency to site, vintage and variety. The small, bare-bones winery is located in Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s 17 Grand Cru villages, best-known for yielding broad-shouldered, exuberant Pinot Noir-based wines. The house style is defined by first-class fruit, extended lees aging and no fining and/or filtration. These are among the most pure, unmanipulated Champagnes readers will come across, and the estate’s new releases are all highly recommended.

The NV Brut Rose Grand Cru is made from vineyards in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzy. This is another totally convincing wine from Egly-Ouriet, not to mention one of the strongest wines in the line-up. The Rose Grand Cru captivates for its gorgeous, fragrant fruit and silky, refined finish. It is a jewel of a wine. The Rose Grand Cru spent 48 months on its lees and was disgorged in July, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
Egly-Ouriet remains one of Champagne’s leading small growers. From top to bottom these wines impress for their inimitable class. A non-interventionalist approach in the vineyards and cellar, old-vine parcels in top vineyards and long lees-aging are some of the qualities that define these sublime Champagnes.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru blends roughly two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay with 2% of red wine. The current release is based on the 2010 vintage and according to Francis, only barrel-fermented parts have been used for the blend. Fresh red berries and cherries on the nose lead to a very fruity, firm, fresh and elegantly textured palate. The wine is lovely, clear and mineral, with aromatic sweet cherry fruit and delicate tannin structure. With two or three grams of dosage, this is virtually an Extra Brut. The grapes were sourced in the Grand Cru terroirs of Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay.

Sourced from the Grand Cru terroirs of Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzena, the salmon-colored NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru offers an invitingly clear, fresh and subtle bouquet of red fruits along with floral and lemon aromas. Very delicate and elegant in the palate, this medium to full-bodied wine develops an impressive intensity and finesse. The finish is long and complex, and combines the purity of perfectly ripe framboise with mineral intensity and structure. This is an impressive Rosé of great finesse and purity, and a remarkably refined expression of its terroirs that often give full and fruit intense but less refined Champagnes. The wine I tasted was disgorged after 42 months on the lees in January 2014, and should be in great condition for 4-5 years, if not longer.

Disgorged in July 2000 and based on the 1996 vintage, Francis Egly's NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru continues to drink with style. It has lost some of the exuberant fruit it once displayed, revealing today a more subtle and delicate bouquet of rhubarb, red plums, gingerbread and wheat toast, followed by a vinous, muscular palate framed by chalky dry extract and complemented by a pearly mousse. While it was better five years ago, it is still a pleasure to drink.

Based on the 2016 vintage and disgorged in early 2022, Egly's NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is now bottled in dark glass, protecting it from light strike. Bursting with aromas of pear, tangerine, cherries and toasted almonds, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous, with racy acids and a long, sapid finish. This brilliant, characterful wine is worth a special effort to seek out.

The N.V. Brut Rose displays a light to medium salmon color, and an intense nose of red fruits, spices, and flowers. This wine is a terrific example of how Champagne can be rich, yet with no cloying sweetness or heaviness. It is ripe, long, full, and ideal for drinking over the next 4-5 years. This offering is not an aperitif-styled Champagne. It is meant to be drunk with food.
This tiny estate's vineyards are all entitled to grand cru designation.

The Non-Vintage Rose is a bright salmon color, with a Burgundian-like nose of cherries, strawberries, and flowers. Deep yet delicate, dry, zesty, vibrant flavors cut a full impression on the palate. Readers should also note the uniformity of the tiny pinpoint bubbles. This is a dazzling rose to drink over the next 4-5 years.
It was only recently that I discovered and began extolling the wines of Egly-Ouriet. I realize the large Champagne firms dominate Champagne sales in this country, but one of the most encouraging trends is that small, high quality estate bottlers are now beginning to receive some representation. Egly-Ouriet's Champagnes are so good that I have begun buying them to drink chez moi. The new releases are gorgeous examples of just how rich Champagne can be without being too heavy or cumbersome.
Readers will be delighted to know that this small estate prints the date of disgorgement on each bottle, a practice that should be followed by all Champagne producers. Given the intensity of these exquisite wines, they should be drunk with food rather than served as an aperitif.

Based on the 2014 vintage and disgorged in July 2020, the latest release of Egly's NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of tangerine oil, crisp red berries, toasted almonds and white flowers—in other words, much as I described the 2013-base last year but with a touch more aromatic intensity. Full-bodied, vinous and enveloping, with superb depth at the core, racy acids and a pillowy mousse, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish. While it's showing beautifully today, I'd love to revisit it with another year on cork.

Based on the 2013 vintage and disgorged in July 2019 after 60 months sur lattes, the latest release of the NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of tangerine oil, red berries, white flowers and warm brioche, with only subtle hints of the honeyed complexity to come with further age on cork. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and complete, with a layered core of ripe but beautifully defined fruit, a pinpoint mousse and a long, sapid finish. This is one of the finest young rosé bottlings I've tasted from Francis Egly.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is excellent, wafting from the glass with notes of red apples, mandarin and spring flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and precise, with a delicately textural attack, superb concentration and tension at the core and a long, racy finish. This bottle was disgorged in July 2018 after 60 months on the lees.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is distinguished, among other things, by the five years it spent on its lees, which is quite long for Rosé Champagne. Bright and beautifully sculpted, the Rosé sizzles with tension and yet it also possesses a sense of inner suaveness that is impossible to miss. This is such a classy wine. Disgorged: July, 2020.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru pulses with real energy. Cranberry, white flowers, chalk and mint give the Rosé an airy brightness, especially in the aromatics, but there is plenty of depth as well. Far from an easygoing wine, Egly's Rosé has the charm to drink well as an aperitif as well as the structure to pair with just about anything at the dinner table. I would give it a few months in bottle, as the wine appears to still be recovering from its recent disgorgement in July, 2019.

Although I never think about wine as a competition, there is no question the Caraccioli shows better on this night than the much more famous NV Egly-Ouriet Rosé. In this pairing, the Caraccioli is more generous than the leaner, more focused Egly. Both are terrific, but I prefer the Caraccioli, especially with the food.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is a serious wine. The Brut Rosé starts as the same wine as the Brut Tradition, and then sees about 2-3% still red wine, which, along with a very low dosage of 2 grams per liter, take the wine into a dimension of brightness, tension and focus, with little of the creaminess found in the Tradition. The white pepper, cranberry, rose petal and chalk notes are finely sketched in a Champagne endowed with remarkable purity and translucence. Disgorged December 2017. Dosage is 2 grams per liter.

Egly-Ouriet's NV Brut Rosé is crisp, vibrant and lively in the glass. Finely sculpted red berry, chalk and floral notes give the Rosé its cut and overall sense of energy. Medium in body, with terrific persistence, Egly-Ouriet's Rosé is all class. In this release, the Rosé is especially taut in style, with a weightless sense of grace that is hard to capture in words. Egly-Ouriet's NV Brut Rosé is terrific. Bright cranberry, raspberry, white flowers, citrus and chalky notes are some of the signatures. Fine, elegant and chiseled, the Brut Rosé possesses terrific balance and class. Bright, saline notes extend the finish. This is another super-impressive 2011-based Champagne from Egly-Ouriet. The Rosé is done with about 50% reserve wines and 2-3% still Pinot. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged December 2016.

Cranberry, chalk, white pepper and flowers give the NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru its delineated, finely sculpted personality. Classy and polished to the core, Egly's Rosé captures the essence of the house style. This release, based on 2010, is perhaps a touch austere, but in a classic sense that will appeal most to readers who seek tension and energy. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay with just 2-3% still Pinot for color. Disgorged November, 2015. Dosage is just 2 grams per liter.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is fresh, delicate and precise. Scents of chalk, cranberry, white pepper and mint all give the Rosé much of its lifted, aromatically beguiling personality. Deceptively medium in body, the Rosé is a wine built on tension, energy and lift rather than size. It is also quite a bit less overtly vinous than most of the other wines in the range. Depth and intensity are implied rather than overtly stated in Egly-Ouriet's Rosé, a striking wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Disgorged: July 2015.

The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is soft, open and quite accessible. Perhaps it is the base of 2009 in this release, but today, the Rosé is radiant in the glass. Blood orange, pomegranate, crushed flowers and a hint of spice flesh out in a succulent, forward Rosé to drink now and over the next few years. Perhaps it is the extra year in bottle, but the July 2014 disgorgement is very expressive today in an open-knit style that is ready to deliver maximum pleasure. The creamy, voluptuous finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. This release is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, based on 2009 with 20% each 2008 and 2007 wines. Aging took place in equal parts tank and neutral oak. Disgorged: July 2014.

(60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay; 2 g/l dosage; disgorged in July, 2013 after 46 months on its lees): Light, bright orange. Pungent redcurrant and cherry on the perfumed nose, with a smoky mineral quality adding complexity and lift. Firm, sharply focused cherry and rose pastille flavors display excellent concentration and pick up a spicy element with air. Shows a hint of blood orange on the finish, which lingers with strong mineral-driven persistence. About 10% of this blend is still red wine from Ambonnay.

Based on the 2018 vintage, Egly's NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru bursts with aromas of peaches, red berries and orange zest mingled with hints of praline and freshly baked bread. Full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit that's girdled by racy acids and animated by a pillowy mousse, this bright, penetrating Champagne is already showing well.
