A pale salmon hue. The nose is quite reserved at first, but give it little swirling to entice those aromas of peach, rose petal and orange blossom. Very well balanced on the palate with fine acidity. The mid-palate is quite citrusy with notes of tinned peach and peardrops. Moderate length. Not a complex rose like the Dom Perignon 1996 tasted the other week, but utterly refreshing on a hot summer's day. Tasted July 2006.

The latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut Rosé offers up expressive aromas of red apples, crisp stone fruit, cherries and fresh pastry, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping palate. Comparatively rich and textural for this routinely elegant, fine-boned cuvée, it's more gastronomic than usual.

The NV Rose is based on 2011, with 80% Pinot Noir (Tour sur Marne, Louvois, Bouzy) and 20% Chardonnay. It is fresh and well-defined with red fruit aromas. Very delicate and fresh on the palate, this Champagne is pure, mineral and chalky, with lovely mineral grip, tension and good length. This is excellent quality with grip, intensity and tension. There are sweet cherry aromas.

The Delamotte NV Brut Rosé is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay that receives its beautiful pink-salmon color from the saignée method. The grapes are sourced exclusively in grand cru villages such as Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tours-sur-Marne for the Pinot and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for the Chardonnay and are fermented together. The wine tasted here is based on 2012 (disgorged in June 2016 with a dosage of seven grams per liter) and opens with a highly delicate and subtle bouquet of red fruits intermixed with very fine chalky flavors. On the palate, this is an intense yet fine, very elegant, well-structured and persistent Rosé with a lovely vinous character and charming fruit reminiscent of raspberries and cherries. The finish is pure, fresh and even salty, revealing a delicate grip and a lush, highly delicate texture. This is a picture book Rosé that doesn't need any occasion but itself.

The latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut Rosé reveals a pretty bouquet of blood orange, red apples and brioche. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with a crisp core of fruit, a delicate mousse and bright acids. It's an elegant, precise rosé that will drink well over the coming decade.

The NV Brut Rosé is a sinewy, taut wine laced with perfumed, energetic fruit. As delicious as the wine is, it is also clearly deeply informed by the Chardonnay of Mesnil, and I really wonder about the rationale behind a Rosé from a village that is so famous for its Chardonnays. To be sure, Delamotte's Rosé is a pretty, harmonious wine, but at the top level, there is simply too much competition from houses with vineyards better suited to making top-class Rosé. This is Lot # L 77R25506, disgorgement date unknown.

Delamotte's NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is powerful and intense but also rather austere in personality. Ultimately there doesn't seem to be enough fruit here to give the wine sufficient balance. This is Lot # L8024207, disgorged July 2007.

(60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay; 8 g/l dosage): Light orange. An intensely perfumed nose displays mineral-accented cherry and red berry scents along with slow-building spice and smoke nuances. Tangy, focused and stony on the palate, offering refreshingly bitter redcurrant, blood orange and cherry flavors. Picks up a toasty quality on the incisive finish, with the red fruit notes echoing.

(80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay): Bright orange-pink. Spicy raspberry and blood orange aromas are complicated by chalky minerals and fresh flowers. Taut, sappy red berry flavors pack a serious punch, with refreshingly bitter citrus zest and white pepper notes providing added lift. This tight, concentrated pink Champagne has the verve to work with sashimi or raw shellfish.

(lot # R730704 on the capsule) Copper-pink. Earthy and rich on the nose, suggesting toffee, caramel and cherry, with a smoky, musky overlay. Fat and round in the mouth, showing good density and richness. Has a sweet, dark berry flavor profile but assertive acids add brightness and focus. Crisp, zesty and long on the back, with lingering cherry pit flavor.

Based on the 2020 vintage and complemented by 15% reserve wines from 2019 and 2018, the latest release of Delamotte’s NV Brut Rosé was disgorged with a dosage of eight grams per liter. It reveals notes of cherry, smoke, red apple and roses. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, rich and gastronomic, with ripe acidity and a certain phenolic presence, informed by 12% Pinot Noir vinified as red wine. This is a charming, easily approachable wine that concludes with a rather sweet, perfumed finish, making one wonder if there is an element of dosage at play.
