Based on the 2015 vintage and disgorged in 2020, the latest release of Delamotte's emblematic NV Brut Blanc de Blancs wafts from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, mandarin orange, green apple, fresh bread and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vibrant, it's bright and precise, exemplifying the house style.

Another fine mousse. Silver hue with green tints. An intense nose with note of green apple, lemon zest and chalk. Very racy on the palate, sharp acidity with a minerally mid-palate. Perhaps a little straight-laced and reserved, with a linear finish. Fine - I prefer this to the Brut. Tasted July 2006.

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is soft, generous and very pretty in its expression of varietal fruit. Full malolactic fermentation and base of 2002 wine makes this an especially round Blanc de Blancs. This bottling is mostly sourced from vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger (2/3) with the rest coming from Avize and Cramant. This wine sees 5 years on the lees instead of 7 for the vintage. The NV Blanc de Blanc is not imported into the US, but is available in other markets. This bottle was disgorged in early 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.
Delamotte is one of Champagne’s oldest houses. The domaine lies next-door to its sister estate, Salon, which makes one of Champagne’s most iconic wines. Both properties are run by General Manager Didier Depond, and the winemaking is overseen by chef de caves Michel Fauconnet. The wines at both properties are made separately, but in years in which Depond and Fauconnet decide to forgo making Salon, that wine is sometimes added to the Delamotte bottlings.

The latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs, the house's emblematic bottling, is once again showing very well, bursting with aromas of citrus zest, freshly baked bread, nougat, crisp stone fruit and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and pillowy, with a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse, it's a seamless, elegant wine that concludes with a flavorful finish.

Based on 2010, plus 20% reserve wines from 2009 and 2008, the NV Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru was disgorged in 2015 with a dosage of seven grams; this dosage preserves the freshness and intensity of citrus with elegant acidity. It is clear, chalky, lemony and fresh on the nose, while the palate is pure, straight and mineral. This is a pretty authentic Blanc de Blancs with a nice purity and intensity of fruit, as well as mineral expression in the finish. It has good length, with pineapple aromas and a fine structure. It also has good grip, as if some of it was fermented in oak, but that's not the case; only stainless steel was used.

The latest release of Delamotte's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is showing well, offering up aromas of citrus oil, crisp green orchard fruit, hazelnuts and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, round and charming, this is a soft, delicately fleshy wine that's extremely pleasant and pleasure-bent, but it can't match the cut or concentration of the last few years' renditions.

The latest rendition of Delamotte's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is drinking very well out of the gates, offering up aromas of crisp orchard fruit and citrus zest mingled with hints of fresh bread and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise, with bright acids and chalky grip, concluding with a dry finish, this is a classy, seamless wine that will offer a broad drinking window.

Disgorged in June 2018, the latest rendition of Delamotte's NV Blanc de Blancs is showing just as well as its immediate predecessor, offering up a classy bouquet of crisp green apple, citrus oil, brioche, toasted nuts and dried white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and elegant, with a crisp but charming core of fruit, lively acids and a precise, saline finish.

The NV Blanc de Blancs Brut is a 100% stainless steel-fermented Chardonnay sourced in the grand cru villages of Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Cramant that spends up to five years on the lees in bottle. This bottling is based on the 2012 vintage (plus 10% reserve wines) and was disgorged after almost four years in January 2017 (dosage: 7 grams per liter). It shows deep, clear, fresh and aromatic fruit on the nose, intertwined with chalky flavors typical for this part of the Côte des Blancs. On the palate, this is a round, very elegant, beautifully pure and mineral yet well-concentrated Blanc de Blancs with a stimulatingly fruity and mouth-filling if not succulent finish structured by very fine chalky tannins. This lush and perfectly balanced Brut shows a remarkably fine mousse and drinks perfectly today, but it can be cellared for up to 6 years to gain more complexity. Tasted November 2017.

Disgorged in November 2017, this bottle of Delamotte's NV Blanc de Blancs was showing very well, offering up a classy bouquet dominated by aromas of dried white flowers and crushed rock, with hints of green apple, lemon oil and brioche playing a supporting role. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, bright and incisive, marrying structural tension with sufficient charm to make this a decidedly versatile Blanc de Blancs. The finish is pure and chalky.

Delamotte's just-released 2014 Blanc de Blancs has turned out very well indeed, opening in the glass with scents of citrus zest, crisp orchard fruit, fresh bread and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, with excellent depth at the core, racy acids and a chalky finish, this isn't as muscular as the 2008 or 2012, but it has real cut and persistence and should age very gracefully indeed.

Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's racy and concentrated, with an elegant mousse and a long, mineral finish. This is well worth seeking out.

A worthy successor to the super 2008, Delamotte's 2012 Blanc de Blancs is performing very well—despite the fact that it was disgorged as recently as June 2019. Opening in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, dried white flowers, smoke and wheat toast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a bright girdle of acidity, well-integrated dosage and a fine mousse, the muscularity of the vintage rendered with uncommon finesse. While this is quite expressive for such a recently disgorged vintage Delamotte, the rewards of even only a few years' patience will be considerable.

The finest young wine I've encountered from Delamotte, the 2008 Blanc de Blancs unfurls in the glass with an expressive bouquet of freshly baked bread, lemon oil, green apple, oyster shell and mandarin. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural but incisive, with superb concentration and depth at the core and a long, penetrating finish. Less autolytic in style than the 2004, some 60,000 bottles were produced, around a third less than in an average vintage. This bottle was disgorged a year ago with seven grams per liter dosage.

The 2008 Blanc de Blancs offers a deep, clear, fresh and complex bouquet of chalk, lemon leaves, lemon zest and concentrated yellow fruit expressions (mirabelles) that are discreet but give the background prospect of this remarkable wine. Delamotte's 2008 combines freshness and purity with maturity, complexity and mineral tension. It is almost austere toward the finish but has lots of charm, finesse and elegance and is driven by clean acidity. The grapes for the 2008 were sourced in Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly and Oiry, and the blend was aged on the second lees for nine years before disgorgement. Pretty notes of smoke, mint, licorice and peaches emerge from the 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru. This medium-bodied, refined Chardonnay possesses notable complexity in its layered, refined personality. Here, too, the wine offers superb length and finesse. The 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs is a beautifully nuanced wine. Here the Chardonnay speaks with notable eloquence, often drawing parallels with the wines of Burgundy. This Lot # 6905306, disgorged February, 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.

The 2008 Delamotte is a deep, resonant Champagne endowed with stunning lays of depth. In 2008 Delamotte has all of the kaleidoscopic, multi-dimensional personality of the vintage, but the full malolactic fermentation softens some of the natural angularity of the year. Pastry, vanillin, baked apple, dried flowers and chamomile are all beautifully sculpted in the glass. This is one of the most accessible young 2008 Champagnes readers will come across, but there is real staying power and more than enough depth to support many years of fine drinking. Delamotte's 2018 Blanc de Blancs is only the fourth edition since 2008. Since Michel Fauconnet found it expressive earlier, it was disgorged after four and half years of aging on the lees (as opposed to the six years typical of previous editions) with a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter. Sourced from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly and Oiry, it comes from a lower-acid vintage that’s charming and inviting, revealing aromas of tangerine, dried white flowers and pear. Full-bodied, generous and even powerful, it is underpinned by ripe yet vibrant acidity. It will offer a broad drinking window, but to minimize the vintage signature and maximize reflection of its origins, a few extra years under cork are advisable.

Since around two-thirds of Delamotte production represents their basic Brut; another 25% their non-vintage Blanc de Blancs; and there is a bit of rose, too, it follows that their 2002 Brut Blanc de Blancs represents a rare bird indeed; and from its being on the market now (in the form of a late-2012 disgorgement) you can recognize how little hurry the house is to release their vintage bottling. Already in the nose, hints of walnut and pistachio oils point toward the bittersweet, subtly smoky, faintly toasty aspect of a bottling that at the same time harbors pure and succulent apple and pear wreathed in heliotrope and orange blossom inner-mouth perfume. A vividly scallop-like and salivary gland-milking sweet- saline, mineral-animal savor opens the floodgates of the salivary glands, and for some of us, perhaps even the tear ducts. This finishes with extraordinary persistence and alliance of richness with levity. Especially considering that, in a vintage of this quality, Salon was not giving up their fruit to help inform this vintage Delamotte, it represents an outstanding accomplishment; and what's more, a quite stunning value for its genre.
Delamotte director Didier Depond and chef de cave Michel Fauconnet - also responsible for Champagne Salon, housed in immediately adjacent facilities since both became part of the Laurent-Perrier in 1989 - perpetuate some long-standing house rules, including fermentation in tank, generally with a substantial share of the lots undergoing malolactic transformation; and the incorporation into one or both of their Blanc de Blancs bottlings (in years when no Salon is declared) of fruit from the vineyards under contract for that house. Shades of German wine registration numbers, it is the last portion - here amounting to five digits - of a Delamotte lot number (on the back of each bottle) to which one most needs to attend, as that indicates the disgorgement date, viz. -L ... 04612- was disgorged on the 46th day (thus, in mid-February) of 2012.
