vinous 2012

Rating: 93 –93

The 2012 Extra Brut Assemblage captures all of the exuberance of the vintage. Ample and creamy, the Assemblage is alluring right out of the gate. Kirsch, dried flowers, mint, baked pastry and a kiss of oak build as this open-knit Champagne shows off its considerable charm. Disgorged: March, 2020.

Rating: 88 –88

Made from Pinot Noir (52%) and Chardonnay (48%) from nine villages, the golden colored, yeasty flavored 2004 Brut Millésimé Assemblage takes its time to open up and give way to a quite complex and more fruit-intense Champagne compared to the corresponding Blanc de Blancs. Mango, ripe peaches, Poire Williams, and other tropical fruit aromas along with ripe raspberries, honey, barley and caramel on the nose lead to a vinous and elegant wine with a good but somewhat rustic length though the Assemblage lacks the tension and minerality of the Blanc de Blancs. Disgorged in March 2012; dosage: 5 g/l. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2020
