Huber's 2021 Malterdinger Chardonnay opens with an intense and concentrated, mineral-scented, very elegant and balanced nose of ripe and intensely flavored Chardonnay intermingled with notes of crushed stones. Full-bodied, pure and fresh, with crunchy grip and salinity, this is an impressively characterful and sustainable Chardonnay with serious substance and remarkable complexity. The acidity is finely grained, fresh and well-integrated into the athletic body. The wine finishes still tight but also intense and firmly structured, with characteristic iodine notes on the aftertaste. Still very young, the 2021 should be cellared for at last another two or three years. A superb wine for a reasonable price. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2023.
