Rating: 89 –89

A 70-30 blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, the 2018 Crozes Hermitage les Terres Blanches is matured in both oak (60%) and tank (40%). It hints at pineapple, pear and melon on the nose, then delivers more pear and melon notes on the palate. Full-bodied, yet crisp and vibrant on the finish, it should be drunk over the near term. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.

Delicately perfumed oak and hints of crushed stone mingle easily on the nose of the 2020 Crozes Hermitage les Terres Blanches, a blend of 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne matured in a mix of demi-muids, barriques and tank. It's floral and pear scented, with pineapple as well, imparting ample complexity, while the medium to full-bodied palate is ripe yet focused, with bright beams of citrus, brine and chalk that linger on the finish. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.

A blend of 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage les Terres Blanches is sourced from the region around Larnage, known for its white soils. This medium to full-bodied white is rich in the mouth, yet briny, subtly bitter and balanced, with notes of fennel and honey on the finish. It should drink well for a few years.

Rating: 90 –90

The 2017 Crozes Hermitage les Terres Blanches is a bit unusual for the appellation in that it's 70% Roussanne and 30% Marsanne. It's also 70% barrel fermented and aged, with the remainder being done in stainless steel. Full-bodied, ripe and round, it offers attractive notes of honeyed pineapple, cinnamon, clove and vanilla, even a hint of sweet corn, before fading on the finish.

The outstanding 2009 Crozes-Hermitage Les Terres Blanches (70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne) comes from very old vines. It is a zesty, elegant effort displaying aromas of white peaches, apricots and nectarines. Also a sleeper of the vintage, it should drink nicely for 3-4 years. A seriously impressive white, the 2012 Crozes Hermitage les Terres Blanches offers classic minerality to go with hints of cream, white flowers and stone fruits. A blend of 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne that was aged most in barrel (30% in tank), this medium-bodied, textured and finesse-styled effort has juicy acidity and a perfect mix of richness and freshness. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years. This was a rock solid lineup from this tiny, family owned estate. Importer: Wine House Ltd, San Francisco, CA; Tel. (415)355-9463
