The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is excellent, unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, citrus zest, fresh bread, white flowers and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's elegantly muscular, with a satiny attack and a long, precise finish.

The 1996 Corton-Charlemagne was in an extremely difficult stage of its evolution to judge, hence the question mark. Aromatically revealing charred oak spices, this wine has an exceedingly tight core of extremely concentrated and tangy white currants and superb depth. It appears to have the definition, power, ripeness and extraction of an outstanding wine, but I will reserve judgement until I have the opportunity to retaste it.

The 1995 Corton-Charlemagne is spectacular. Profound aromas of almond paste, ripe pears, white flowers, and anise are followed by a broad, medium-to-full-bodied, powerful, magnificently concentrated, and extracted core of honeysuckle blossoms, red berries, minerals, and spicy oak. This superb offering should be at its peak between 2002 and 2009.

There is so much depth and generosity, with a tightly wound, aromatic profile that is promising for the years to come. The palate is vibrant, linear and minerally, with a lovely structure and a nervy edge. Give this some time to show its true personality, although it’s charming and generous now. Drink or hold.
