The NV Brut Réserve Oubliée is quite understated in this release, which is based on the 2016 vintage. Hints of pear, lemon confit, mint, white flowers, dried herbs and jasmine are finely knit. The Réserve Oubliée, a selection of Cuvée de Réserve that spends an extra year on its lees and is aged under cork, is usually a Champagne of real textural depth, but this edition is decidedly on the lighter side of things.

The NV Brut Réserve Oubliée (base 2015 ) marries freshness, tension and the complexity that emerges from the perpetual reserve in this blend. Wonderfully complex and layered, with striking aromatic presence, the Réserve Oubliée has so much going on. Marzipan, dried flowers, mint, lemon confit and spice build in the resonant, creamy finish. Dosage is 4.5-5.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: December, 2020.

The NV Réserve Oubliée (2014 base) is stellar. Ample and creamy on the palate, the Réserve Oubliée is beautifully textured from start to finish. Tropical accents add an exotic flair to the lemon confit, pear and floral notes. The Réserve Oubliée is the same base wine as the Cuvée de Réserve, but it spends an extra year on its lees and is aged under cork as opposed to crown seal. Those choices result in a Champagne endowed with striking complexity and nuance in all of its dimensions. This release is exceptionally beautiful.

The NV Réserve Oubliée (based on the 2013), is just stellar. Ample and creamy on the palate, and yet also wonderfully light on its feet, the Réserve Oubliée is a real pleasure to taste. Bright orchard fruit and floral notes abound in this gorgeous, super-expressive Champagne. One of my fondest memories of tasting the 2013 vins clairs was at Pierre Péters. Now that those wines are starting to feature in blends, I am very happy to see that my enthusiasm for the young vintage when I first tasted it in March 2014 was fully justified. As for the Réserve Oubliée, it is a Champagne of pure and total sensuality.

The NV Réserve Oubliée (2013 base) is the finest edition of this wine yet. Airy, weightless and gracious, but with plenty of depth, the Réserve Oubliée is absolutely fabulous. A range of floral, savory and citrus nuances emerge from a Champagne endowed with tremendous class and personality. As a reminder, the Réserve Oubliée is the same base wine as the Cuvée de Réserve, but aged an extra year on the lees and bottled under cork rather than crown seal. Disgorged: November, 2018.

The NV Reserve Oubliée is a serious, beautifully resonant wine. Ample, creamy and super-expressive, the Reserve Oubliée has so much to offer. Pear, baked apple, dried flowers, almond and chamomile infuse this layered, inviting Champagne. This is an especially big wine for Peters, but it works. As a reminder, the Reserve Oubliée is the same base wine as the Cuvée de Réserve, but aged an extra year on the lees and bottled under cork rather than crown seal. Disgorged: April 2018.

Another winner in this range, the NV Reserve Oubliée is terrific. This release is based on 2012, with 50% reserve wines from the previous edition, aged on cork. Rich, ample and creamy, the Reserve Oubliée is wonderfully expressive and inviting. Hints of dried pear, smoke, sage and mint add myriad shades of nuance. For the Reserve Oubliée, the wines spend a second year of aging on the lees prior to being bottled. Disgorged November 2017. Dosage is 4 grams per liter.

The NV (2011) Reserve Oubliée is a pleasant wine, but the challenges of the 2011 vintage are impossible to escape. Lemon confit, honey, herb and mint struggle to emerge, while vegetal notes dominate. Moreover, the 2011 gives the impression it will age at a relatively fast clip. Dosage is 3.7 grams per liter. Disgorged January 2017.

The NV Brut Réserve Oubliée is wonderfully perfumed, creamy and expressive. White flowers, chamomile, orchard fruit and lightly baked apples grace the palate in an exquisite, beautifully sculpted Champagne. The soft contours and soft, engaging personality make it incredibly appealing, even at this early stage. The NV Brut Réserve Oubliée, is essentially the Cuvée de Réserve with an additional year of aging in tank. Disgorged September 2015. Dosage is 4.2 grams per liter.

The NV Brut Réserve Oubliée, is essentially the Cuvée de Réserve with an additional year of aging in tank. In this case, the wine is based on the 2008 vintage, which includes reserve wines going back to 1988. Almond, hazelnut, dried pear and spice notes are all nicely delineated. Sweet, perfumed aromatics add lift to the textured, inviting finish. Disgorged April 2014. Dosage is 3-3.5 grams per liter.

Mint, white flowers, slate, hazelnut and crushed rocks are some of the many notes that inform the NV Brut Réserve Oubliée, which is essentially the Cuvée de Réserve with an extra year in tank, based on 2008 in this release. There is plenty of vintage 2008 energy and tension in a finely-sculpted Champagne from Rodolphe Péters that delivers the goods. The extra year in tank adds nuance and softens some of the angular contours these Champagnes can show when young. There is so much to like here.

The NV Réserve Oubliée, a new wine in the range, is essentially the Cuvée de Réserve with an additional year of aging in tank. In this case, the wine is based on the 2007 vintage, which includes reserve wines going back to 1988. Intensely perfumed, floral notes lead to a core of expressive, layered fruit. The Reserve Oubliée impresses for its balance of texture and energy. Hints of jasmine, mint, lavender and white peaches flow through to the brilliant, tense finish. Rodolphe Péters uses reserve wines aged in cognac barrels as a base for his liqueur rather than MCR (concentrated must) for the Réserve Oubliée. This bottle was disgorged in March 2013. Dosage was 5.3 grams per liter. Péters fans will want to snap up this small production cuvée. It is drop-dead gorgeous.

A dazzling, complex wine, the Réserve Oubliée is endowed with striking aromatics, nuanced fruit and fabulous balance. It will be interesting to see what the Réserve Oubliée is like in versions where the base vintage is stronger. Still, there is a lot to like here. (4.5 g/l dosage; disgorged in April, 2014): Pale gold. Aromas of poached pear, beeswax, toasted nuts and brioche, with a zesty mineral quality adding lift. Weighty, broad and smooth, offering bitter pear skin and hazelnut flavors along with a touch of honey. Shows a musky herbal quality on the finish, which clings with excellent persistence and repeating toastiness. This wine is based on the 2008 vintage and is made via a solera-type system of ongoing additions as newer bottlings are made; fans of mature, nutty Champagne should give it a try.

Heady mineral-accented aromas of lemon curd, orange and nectarine, complicated by intense mineral, iodine and honeysuckle nuances and a hint of ginger. Deep, penetrating orchard fruit and citrus pith flavors pick up spiciness with air, along with notes of buttery brioche and quinine. Finishes dry and stony, with superb clarity and cut and persistent minerality.

About the Producer

The Pierre Péters estate, situated in the heart of the "Côte des Blancs" in the village of Le Mesnil sur Oger, has been a family house for six generations and has produced Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagnes since 1919. We do everything possible to express the chalky soil of our great terroirs as passionate craftsmen. Champagne grower-producer, our wines come exclusively from our own vineyards. Our house currently operates just over 19 hectares of Chardonnay, mainly located in the communes of Le Mesnil sur Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant. Our family has developed from generation to generation, its own selection of grapes (mass selection). We have been able to maintain and age vineyards which are now 30-years old on average. Each year in respect of the environment, we adapt our cultivation methods to obtain healthy grapes so that our Champagne expresses more precisely the richness, subtlety and the elegance of the great "terroirs" of the Côte des Blancs.
