About the Producer
Seiichi Saito is a Japanese expatriate of Chinese descent who studied at a wine school in Beaune in 2006 before moving to Burgundy in 2008 for further exploration. In 2017, he founded Petit-Roy. Prior to establishing Petit-Roy, Seiichi spent time collaborating with several outstanding domaines, such as Bize (where he worked with Patrick and the team for several years), Mugnier, Rousseau, and Leflaive. Acquiring vineyards in Burgundy is a challenging task, but Seiichi managed to purchase a 2.1-hectare appellation area where he works biodynamically. He supplements this with grapes purchased from friends. In terms of winemaking, he likes whole-cluster red wines and prefers to limit extraction by using pumps and a few gentle punch-downs at the end of alcoholic fermentation and minimal sulfur during fermentation, post-fermentation, or before bottling.
