It is a harmonious cuvée in which the luminous notes of Chardonnay are perfectly complemented by Champagne’s two red grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Silvery gold in the glass, Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut is a vibrant, stylish cuvée characterised by delicate floral aromas, rounded out by fresh fruit and hints of buttery brioche and vanilla. Though crisp and light, it combines freshness with a lingeringly rich, generous finish, preserving its distinctive balance and harmony to the very end.

(made from roughly 40% Pinot Meunier, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay; 10 g/l dosage; Lot 029140020): Light yellow-gold. Zesty citrus and orchard fruits on the mineral-accented nose, with a hint of white flowers coming up with aeration. Lively and focused on the palate, offering slightly tart lemon and green apple flavors and a hint of candied ginger. Closes taut and spicy, with good cut and length.

(40% pinot meunier, 35% pinot noir and 25% chardonnay; L1581302156): Light yellow, with a faint reflection of green. Lemon, lime and fresh pear on the spice-tinged nose. Dry and nervy, offering tangy citrus fruit flavors and a touch of white pepper. Shows good clarity and bite on the finish, which leaves a bitter quinine note behind. On the tight side for this bottling and well-suited to simply adorned or even raw fish and shellfish.

A dry, taut midweight that finishes with very good length and refreshing bitterness. This was a solid showing for this bottling this year.

(lot #2940400963 on the bottle) Pale gold color. Toasted bread, hazelnut and fresh pear on the nose, along with a hint of fresh porcini. Fine-grained and elegant in texture, with fresh flavors of apple, orange and buttery brioche. Finishes with good length and notes of lemon and lime.

High-pitched aromas of lemon and chalk. Brisk mousse. Juicy and intensely flavored but rather easygoing, with moderate dosage and harmonious acidity. Offers intriguing red fruit hints of maraschino cherry and strawberry to go with citrus notes of lemon and mandarin orange. A second sample was crude and alcoholic, with virtually no flavor. My score is obviously for the better bottle.

Perrier-Jouet is a large producer based in Epernay that is most famous for its striking “flower bottle” which remains one of Champagne’s most recognizable designs. The house favors a perceptibly sweet style, with dosage levels that are towards the high end of the range for the region. Few producers make it harder than Perrier-Jouet to discern a lot number. Readers will have to look in the punt of the bottles for the small, raised code which can then be traced back to a disgorgement date. Surely there must be a more consumer-friendly way to do things. About the Producer
The chateau of Perrier-Jouët Champagne was founded in 1811, the name was composed of Mr. Pierre-Nicolas and Mrs. Marie Perrier (added her maiden name “Jouët”). They have successfully sold the wine to UK since 1815. After a few years, they also opened up the American market. These successes made more market demands. Therefore they started exploring more vineyards, like Avize, Cramant and so on. Most of the vineyards grow Chardonnay. This makes the foundation of unique style of Perrier- Jouët champagne.
