Tasting notes

Reviewed by: Neal Martin
Tasted at the “Rewards of Patience” vertical in Berlin. The St Henri 2009 is a blend of 97% Shiraz and just 3% Cabernet. It has a ravishing, sensual, flamboyant bouquet of mulberry, raspberry, orange sorbet and Tiptree strawberry jam. It is the kind of bouquet you could spread on toast. It is well defined and shows great precision. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. It has a fleshy texture and great weight, yet again that leitmotif of precision towards the mineral-rich finish. This is another outstanding St. Henri, one of the best from tasting nearly every vintages from 1957 onwards. Drink 2024-2040. Tasted June 2012.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 St Henri Shiraz is slated for release on May 1, 2013. It is a little closed at the moment though reveals earthy aromas of warm berries, some mulberries and Chinese dried plums over notes of meat, black olive, coffee and tree bark. Richly concentrated and complex with layered, savory flavors, it is structured by firm, grainy tannins and is finishing long. It needs time to develop further. Drink it from 2015 to 2025+.
