Tasting notes

A blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, again, very deep colour. Slight cheesy, herbaceous nose the lacks the purity of recent vintages. Quite tannic and masculine on the palate. Foursquare and conservative, black dusty fruits with a touch of smoke. Rather abrasive and unlovable and it becomes quite “feral” with time. Drink now. Tasted July 2006.

Production: 10,960 cases of 6 Blend: 90% Shiraz/10% Cabernet Sauvignon A youthful opaque purple color and a tight but promising nose of jammy cassis with a touch of prunes and smoky oak, are followed by a backward, full-bodied, typical Grange that requires 5-6 more years of cellaring. This huge, lavishly-oaked, unevolved wine is an outstanding effort with 20 years of aging potential. Note: The production figures shown are for twelve bottle cases unless otherwise noted. This bottle is showing better than the one included in the vertical line-up last year. An attractive, conservative nose of blackberry, freshly rolled tobacco, undergrowth and a touch of leather. The full-bodied palate is nicely balanced with good acidity, perhaps straight-laced and unwilling to furnish the taster with an exciting vinous experience, but maintaining cohesion and vigour. Touch of cigar box on the finish. Fine. Tasted June 2007. Drinking now-2015

A light, elegant style of Grange made with a blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has a deep ruby/purple color and a spicy, peppery nose with some new oak, black cherry, and blackberry flavors. The wine shows some dry tannin in the finish that may ultimately prove worrisome given the less-than-massive style of this vintage. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to like in this wine, which is very pure, ripe, and medium to full-bodied. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016.
