In March 1927, twenty-four-year-old Andrew Peller arrived in Halifax with just five dollars, embarking on a journey that would lead him to become a pivotal figure in the Canadian wine industry. After years of contemplation during his voyage from Hungary aboard the R.M.S. Ausonia, he eventually planted his first vineyards in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, aiming to foster a culture of wine appreciation among Canadians akin to that in Europe. At 58, he opened wineries across British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, with his son Joe joining the family business in 1966. By 1989, Andrew’s grandson John continued this legacy, leading to a flourishing enterprise that attracts over 280,000 visitors annually and has garnered numerous awards. Today, Peller Estates proudly operates as a family-owned company, emphasizing the importance of family values in their enduring success.
