Soft and satiny, Merlin's 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé mingles aromas of pear and orange oil with notions of freshly baked bread and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and open-knit, with ripe acids and a rounded profile, it will be at its best young.
About the Producer
Over the past 10 years, Olivier Merlin has brought the long-forgotten historical terroir of the region back into the spotlight. In 2011, upon learning of the sale of this beautiful property in Macon, Olivier proposed to Dominique Lafon to acquire it together. They became owners in 2012, signing together their first vintage. A few steps on this exceptional site were enough for Dominique to realize the qualitative potential of this terroir. Together, driven by great motivation, they decided to share their experiences and know-how to master the development of this cuvée, convinced that it could claim to be one of the beacons of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Olivier and Dominique teamed up equally, on a personal and independent basis from their structures, to create a new company under the name of Château des Quarts. Therefore, they are both managers of the company. Located in the heart of the Maconnais, Clos des Quarts is situated in the village of Chaintré, the southernmost part of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, and its oldest vines were planted in 1917. Today, the total surface area of Clos des Quarts is 2 hectares and 65 ares. Dominating the Saône valley, this magnificent enclosed vineyard is protected by a high stone wall that puts it in a monopoly situation.
