About the Producer
With almost 2,000 years of history, Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria. In 1894 the Saahs family acquired Nikolaihof and carried on the traditions the monks had established on integrated farming. Winemaking and grape growing took a larger role at Nikolaihof in the 1960s and the estate has always been organic, with chemicals never used in farming. Nikolaihof has been practicing biodynamics since 1971, making them one of the longest Bio-dynamic practicing wineries in the world. The estate became Demeter certified Bio-dynamic in 1998. 50 acres (22 ha) of vineyard, cultivating predominantly Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Neuburger grapes and a rage of complementary varieties. Letting nature take its course, interfering as little as possible, and giving the wines plenty of time to develop - that's de wine-growing philosophy of Nikolaus Saahs. It's something you can certainly taste in his wines, which are focused, full of flavour and youthful longevity, complex and reflect the terroir perfectly.
