About the Producer
Mount Brown is located in the Wairarapa wine region of New Zealand. Mount Brown has several vineyards, including the Mount Brown block, the Limeloader block and the Weka Gravels block. Of these, the Brown block is the original block, planted with Pinot Noir and Riesling. The first Pinot Noir grapes were planted in 2002 and are the oldest vines in the estate. The vines are planted at a high density, with 4,200 vines per hectare, and are managed using the vertical branch fixation (VSP) method. The Limrod vineyard is the largest vineyard on the estate, with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and a small amount of Tempranillo. The vineyard is spread over well-drained sandy gravel soils and is planted with 3,000 vines per hectare. The Vico vineyard is located in the fairly warm climate of the Vico Creek bed, on poor, stony soils, with old vine Merlot, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir grapes. The wines produced at Brown Mountain reflect the unique terroir of the Wairarapa Valley, producing fruity Pinot Noir, tropical fruit-rich Sauvignon Blanc, concentrated and flavorful Pinot Gris, citrusy and crisp Riesling, and premium Tempranillo. The wines produced can be classified as Catherine's Block, Mount Brown Estates and Wild River.
