Tasting notes

A well-composed, structured and refined Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The nose reveals notes of dark cherries, cassis, dried thyme, black pepper and a touch of violets. It's full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. The frame of tannins shape up the palate, with dark berries at the core. Plenty of spices and grilled herb character on the palate bring vibrancy and drive. Robust and focused, and the funneled finish has length. Try after 2028.

Aromas of violet, dark wild berries, lavender and smoke preface the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Mont Redon, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and structured wine with an assertive tannic frame, velvety tannins and a long and spicy finish. Mainly Grenache Noir with Syrah, Mourvèdre and other authorized grapes, it's matured only 8% in new barrels and the rest in a combination of used barrels and foudres.

About the Producer

History & Family The first vines in the vineyard date back to Roman times, they were planted in the shelter of the mistral wind at the bottom of a little bumpy hill which gave the name of Mont-Redon to our property. History of the Vineyard Mont-Redon is the locality of our vineyard since Antiquity. The topography of the "round mountain" located at the bottom of the estate inspired the Romans who called it "Montem Rotundum", translated today as Mont-Redon. In the year 1344, the vineyard belonged to the Episcopal see and its terroir was then farmed for its own wines. In the 18th century, this land became the property of the Astier-Mathieu family. Anselme Mathieu, a famous Provençal poet known as Félibre who called himself Marquis de Mont-Redon, ran the estate until the end of the 19th century. After the phylloxera crisis, when everything had to be rebuilt and recreated, Henri Plantin decided in 1923 to purchase the estate, which at that time consisted in only 2.5 hectares of vines. First plantations Planting of the first vines on the plateau of rolled pebbles of Mont-Redon. Vine pruning Traditional bush-vines goblet pruning has shaped our vines over the years for a century. The goblet pruning, very respectful of the sap flow, which we practice from generation to generation ensures the longevity of our vineyard. The oldest vines of the estate are almost a century old; they were planted by our ancestor Henri Plantin. A sense of terroir for 4 generations Henri Plantin (1890 - 1966) acted as a precursor. In 1923, well before the creation of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Appellation in 1936, he acquired this property isolated from the village and surrounded by woods. A visionary, he set out to group the different plots around the estate and sense the exceptional nature of the terroir on the plateau overlooking Mont-Redon, which was then covered with scrubland and groves. A pioneer, he decided to clear this unexploited land and plant vines in the rolled pebbles terroir. The following generations contributed, progressively, to extending the estate up to 100 contiguous hectares, proudly making it the largest estate of Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. In 1980, the estate expanded with the acquisition of a 15 hectares vineyard in Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, followed by another 35 hectares vineyard in Lirac appellation in 1997. They are both located in the village of Roquemaure and are next to each other. Château Mont-Redon is owned by the Plantin family, heirs Abeille-Fabre, and is currently run by the 4th generation.
