Tasting notes

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis La Forge de Tart 1er Cru has an open nose with touches of potpourri infusing the red berry fruit, brown spices and just a faint hint of espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite fresh and tensile towards the finish that feels very precise. This is very promising.

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis La Forge de Tart 1er Cru contains 15% whole bunch fruit from the "Ballonge" sub-plot that now enters the final blend. It has a clean and precise bouquet, very pure with more "Pinoté" compared to the Village Cru, greater energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins on the entry and nicely judged acidity. There is a touch of black pepper and bay leaf towards the finish, partly lent by that judicious whole bunch addition and it feels long and tender on the finish. Very fine.
About the Producer
Mommessin is located in the Beaujolais wine region of France and is a renowned first growth in the region. With 77 hectares of vineyards, Château de Momence is located in the northern part of the Beaujolais appellation, in a typical continental climate with hot summers and little rain and long, dry autumns. The vineyards are planted on hillsides where the soil is made up mainly of weathered granite layers, rich in minerals and ideal for the cultivation of high quality Gamay grapes. For this reason, only Gamay is planted in the vineyards of the winery. After the grapes have ripened, the winery conducts a Green Harvest to improve the overall quality of the grapes by removing the underdeveloped and unripe grapes. The harvested grapes are then carefully selected by the winery workers before being vinified to produce wines with a blend of Burgundy and Beaujolais terroirs. These wines are soft and round in tannin, fresh and fruity, and have the potential to age well. With respect for the vine and nature, Château de Momence has always been an environmentally friendly winegrower. The winery is located in an appellation that borders Burgundy to the north and the Rhone Valley to the south, and has maintained good relationships with the best vineyards in both appellations, producing the Mommessin Burgundy and Mommessin Rhone Valley wines. Mommessin Burgundy and Mommessin Rhone Valley. Mommessin Beaujolais Nouveau (Beaujolais, France) and Mommessin Village Beaujolais Nouveau (Beaujolais, France) have been released. Mommessin Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau, Beaujolais, France), which are very popular among consumers.
