Attractive, ripe and pure red-cherry aromas here with lilting, rose-tinged florals. The palate has a smooth and fleshy core of succulent ripe red-cherry flavor and an open-knit weave of ripe tannins. Drink or hold.
About the Producer
Founded in 1878 by Italy’s Royal Family, the Mirafiore winery is renowned for giving Barolo its nickname: “The King of Wines, the Wine of Kings.” Named after Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri di Mirafiori, the son of King Vittorio Emanuele II—the first monarch after Italy’s unification—Mirafiore was established on the estate where the King himself made wine. Upon his death, the property was bequeathed to Emanuele, who would elevate its fame and global reach, becoming a pioneer in Barolo and one of the first Italian winemakers to export his wines. Certified organic since 2018, Mirafiore sources its fruit from estate-owned vineyards primarily in the Serralunga d’Alba commune, one of Barolo’s top growing regions, celebrated for the power and longevity of its wines. The estate also cultivates vines in two of Barolo’s most famous crus, Lazzarito and Paiagallo. The winemaking style is strictly traditional. The winemaker utilizes submerged cap maceration to achieve the classic color and tannic structure of Barolo. Extended aging in large-format Slavonian casks—known as "botti"—imparts the wine with the appellation's signature nuance and depth.
